I always make a point to stop in any visitor center, just because it allows you to find out information about what you are seeing, how it formed, etc. Plus, we paid our entrance fee here.Definitely worth a quick 10 minute stop.

I love Capitol Reef. The scenery rivals any of the other parks in Utah, but the number of people is far fewer than any of the others. Take the time to hike, and drive the dirt roads if you can.

VERY friendly and helpful staff, good selection of gifts, books, and local maps and information. The introduction film is relatively short, but helpful in providing some foundation understanding for what you'll see in this geologic wonderland.

Ask these rangers about hikes in the park. They provided us with excellent hikes based on our itinerary. There is also an amazing view from the building. The movie was also pretty cool. The ghost people were strange.

There is no entrance gate where you pay your dues. You stop in a pull in, pick up an envelope, put in a $5 bill and post it in an honesty box. Keep the receipt to ensure you have proof of payment if anyone stops you to check (I suspect they never do!)The rock formation, canyons and views are spectacular and the walks at the bottom of the canyon walls along the river bed great (but wear good shoes). You can actually walk down one and come out onto the highway at the other end if you want to arrange a pick up and save the reverse walk. At points the canyons become quite narrow so sunlight doesn't get through during parts of the day.A change from the more popular and busy canyons elsewhere.

Capitol Reef is truly a "must-see" in the national park system. Our only regret is that we didn't have enough time here to do all the things that we wanted to do. It is out of the way and you do have to make an effort to get there but when you do it is well worth it. If you like to really explore an area then this is a great place to do it. There are many hikes that allow you to really be a part of the park, not just a spectator from an overlook. Most of the hikes are very accessible to most people. Driving the scenic drive is truly a photographer's dream. Lots of places to stop and take pictures. Beautiful quiet places for picnics and a nice campground. This is also one of the least crowded parks - which also makes it really nice. I am so glad that we took the time to visit and hope that we can return one day.

The state park was very low key, not crowded and they allowed you to drive your car on dirt roads down into the canyons. Plenty of hiking and photography opportunities. THe campground there was very quiet and site all within the trees.

My wife and I recently did the Grand Tour of Utah's parks. This included Capitol Reef. Initially it may seems like a place to zip through and snap a few pictures I would encourage you to stay a bit longer to get a real sense of this unique place. We spend some time in the Mormon apple orchards, stopped by the Gifford House and Museum and sampled some ice cream alongside home made pies. There are a number of Petroglyphs right along the main road which you don't want to miss. Unfortunately for us we had rain bearing down so we couldn't do any extended hiking. Later on we ran into some people who said the ranger guided tour was an amazing experience. In summary, a great nugget, with some awesome rock formations and worth you time investigating.

The rock formations on the dirt roads in the park are the best views we have had of giant rock formations. They have paths that take you right between these huge rocks. This is a park that you should be sure to visit when in the area. We were amazed at what this park offered.

We recently traveled by motor home from Texas to Colorado, Oregon and Utah. While every aspect of the trip was filled with grand geological, natural wonders, we were not prepared for the majestic ruggedness and stunning beauty of the Capital Reef National Park region. In our week there, we thoroughly enjoyed the hiking and sight-seeing activities, as well as the historical and cultural dimensions of Fruita and surrounding communities.It seemed to be a secret in that all other areas visited were packed with visitors, but this Park seemed much less crowded--while not feeling isolated, we most certainly felt room to explore the various trails with time for genuine solitude and quiet contemplation.

We had a busy day, we were suppose to drive Highway 12 east to west ending at Bryce Canyon. We thought of skipping Capitol Reef National park . We decided not to and it was a great decision. It is a beautiful park, beautiful views and wonderful Canyons. It ended up being my daughters favorite park. The Grand wash road is a beautiful Canyon and the Capitol Gorge road , which is unpaved but drive-able with any car is amazing. I wish we had more than few hours to spend in this park.

Park is fantastic.BUT My wife and I each had our credit card info stolen in the gift shop. Our card numbers have been used in Texas and Springfield MO. WE have our card in hand and we live in Hawaii. Imagine that?
