We made a stop in Burr Oak Iowa to the museum. This is a place where Laura's family lived that is not mentioned in her children's books. The motel where her parents worked for a few months is still there and houses the museum. It has been well maintained. The tour guide was nice and allowed plenty of time for questions.

The tour was not long, about 25 minutes. Our guide didn't have much to say to fill the time, and when she did she seemed to try to use negativity as humor. And then there would be awkward pauses as she waited for laughs that never came. Enter across the street at the visitor center/gift shop to buy tickets, then a guide takes you across the street to begin the tour. The stories about the conditions that men slept in at the hotel far exceeded any stories about the actual Ingalls, as this tour was more about life in the 1870s than it was about Laura Ingalls Wilder. 2 adults and 2 kids came to $28
