I've visited here several times and I am always impressed by the exhibits and the friendly staff. There is always something new to see. The museum is housed in a unique building with beautiful grounds and outdoor sculpture installations. It is definitely one of my favorite things about Abingdon.

Interesting mix of traveling shows and local artists, with a pretty impressive variety for such a small town. The museum had recently gone to free (!) admission, which makes it a great value. It's up on a big hill, so there are gorgeous views of Abingdon and the mountains, but I wouldn't recommend trying to walk from downtown, since the entrance is pretty steep. Plenty of parking, but the signage was a little bit lacking. Definitely worth a trip while you are in town.

While we went to the older museum, I understand it is merging with the arts center at the Higher Education Center in Abingdon. The museum contained interesting historical information regarding Abingdon and a great pottery exhibition.

As a Civil War reenactor I have seen many displays about that time period. This was one of the best. There was a good variety of subject matter and one of the displays even made me feel as if I were in the midst of battle.

I love going to The William King. It always has neat little exhibits and offers a great art option for the local community. I highly recommend you swing in and visit them if you pass through.

It certainly was worth the visit - their were wheel chairs and an elevator available and easily accessed. If you are interested in the Civil War, this should certainly be on you list. And it is free which was a bonus.

First class all the way from the galleries to the exhibits...even an elevator for the older set and infirm! A bit hidden away off the main drag but do NOT miss this gem!

We enjoyed our visit to the William King Museum. We went this weekend, during the Virginia Highlands Festival. Other reviewers have mentioned admission prices, but we didn't have to pay anything. We just went in. The stairs are brutal, so if you have knee or hip pain like we do, you might want to skip it. But if you can make the climb, you'll encounter some decent artwork. They were having a photography exhibit -- photos by local professionals and amateurs -- and some were quite good. We actually went to see our friends' 14 year old daughter's pieces -- she came in second place to a professional -- and we enjoyed ourselves. Then we went into one of the rooms, where they had an exhibit by Barter Theater employees, and some were quite good. I was pleasantly surprised. Recommended.

This place was a surprise. It had many amazing exhibits including some local art. The price is right and is definitely worth stopping at if you are in the area and looking for something interesting to do!

It's too bad the money lavished on the nearby glitzy Heartwood wasn't spent on this place, which is devoted to local artists as well as world class exhibits. They have an amazing temporary exhibit of small works by European modernists, as well as very interesting American miniature furniture and a number of local artists. The building needs work but they should be proud of its contents.

We were pleased with one of the traveling exhibits (European Modernists), which was very well done. The whole museum is only about 45 minutes long and the building isn't really conducive for a museum, but at $5 a person, it's worth it if there is an interesting exhibit.

First class facility with all sorts of information, exhibits and articles for sale--all from southwest Virginia. Had an excellent lunch here in their restaurant.

The museum is located in an old building. The admission fee is reasonable. There are 2 main displays that change periodically.

This is a small museum but when I was there, they had several interesting exhibits. Doesn't take much time & definitely worth a visit.
