The pinot speaks for itself at Coelho, but this is more than a wine-tasting. Luke was superb as our server, and explained the wines, the process, the differences, all superbly. What a nice gentleman! The view is magnificent. It was a very relaxing and informative tasting for me and my husband, and we will definitely return.

I like Pinot, but it is nice to visit a winery in the Willamette Valley that makes and serves other reds. The owner, Dave, was the perfect host. He took the time to learn our names, answer our dumb questions, and even gave us a personal tour of the winery. The tasting room was inviting and it is right in the middle of Amity. You must stop here if you are in the area. Oh yeah, the wine is good too.

This past April I was in Portugal for the first time. It was an amazing trip and I discovered some lovely Portuguese wines. So, when a friend told me there was a Portuguese winery a few miles south of McMinnville, Oregon in a little town called Amity, I knew I had to check it out. My boyfriend and I drove down for a tasting on the day they were holding a public release of their 2011 Paciencia Reserva. Their tasting room is in a former hardware store that had been damaged by fire. They have transformed it into a spacious and comfortable tasting room with a side room that will hold larger groups. This winery is a family affair and, yes, they are of Portuguese descent. We were lucky enough to meet the owner who offered to take us on a tour of the rest of the winery. His two sons work there as well, as does his wife who unfortunately I didn't get to meet that day but I look forward to seeing the next time I'm there. The young man and woman at the tasting bar were very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. When I mentioned I enjoyed the wines of the Douro region in Portugal, they were able to suggest a wine tasting that would compare. I also learned the story behind the rooster being a lucky creature in Portugal. The wines were wonderful and the people were welcoming, both which took me back to my time in Portugal. I brought a few bottles home with me and I will definitely stop by the next time I'm driving through Oregon.

Nice little family owned winery in Amity. Yes, they have Pinots which are good, but they also have Petite Sirah and a Portuguese blend. I believe these are from CA grapes, but regardless the wines are very good. The service in the tasting room was top notch as well. We got there about 15 minutes before they were closing, and the guy was more than happy to talk wine with us for 45 minutes.

The Coelho Winery is a great winery and facility. Very quaint and in the heart of the very cute little city of Amity. A great visit with excellent wines.

The wine here is great, with several very distinctive ones we found exciting. Can't believe we haven't visited before. As great as the wine (and the beautiful, unique tasting room) is the charming owner, Dave. No snooty wine snobbery here. He's proud of his wines, and his sons make a remarkable product. We left with a sack full of bottles, and we'll be back!

After having spent the week tasting the wines in the Rogue and Applegate Valleys in southern Oregon, my wife and I thought we'd try one more winery on the drive home thru the Willamette Valley. We hadn't researched where to stop, but saw a sign for Coelho Winery in far-out-of-the-way Amity, so thought we'd stop and check it out,....and boy are we glad we did! Of all the wines we had tasted on our trip, Coelho's wines were the best! (That's not to dis on the Rogue/Applegate wines, but rather speaks more about our own individual tastes) They were busy tending to a bus-load of people in another room, and in spite of that, the owner's wife was amazingly friendly and hospitable, proactively seeing to it that we didn't get missed on the next pour. They were also setting up for a wedding reception to be held there later in the day; what an amazing venue for a wedding! Overall, both the experience and their wines were memorable.

I was the dedicated driver, so the lounge chairs by the fire were very nice. Our wine tasters enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly staff, and the wine was very good.

Tasting room is really cool with the use of salvaged lumber to make some very stout tables but the best part are their wines. These guys really know their stuff.

We visited Coelho Winery early in the day in April. We were greeted by Tim, a personable young man, who also demonstrated his knowledge of the variety of wine offered at Coelho. We enjoyed their delicious wines and ended up bringing home a bottle of their Serenidad Port. It is a lighter Port than you may be familiar with, and the taste is amazing. We were encouraged to try it with a dark chocolate and will do that soon! The tasting room is large and features comfortable places to sit and enjoy sampling these exceptional wines.

We stopped in at the winery in Amity, Oregon and had a wonderful time. One of the first things you notice is the gorgeous venue. There is a grand piano sitting in the wood lined tasting room along with a cozy wood stove seating area and a lovely long bar. Scattered around the room are wine cask top tables with tall metal chairs and some large, rustic tables. There was a separate dining room with the largest dining table I have ever seen. The table is built from big timbers and flanked by long benches. The art work is interesting and overall the whole space is welcoming and warm. The hostess (incredibly knowledgeable and friendly) took us through the tasting flight and we were very impressed with the intricacies of the Portuguese-influenced wines. We enjoyed the wine and port so much that we became wine club members and bought a case of wine. The two ports are very different from one another and we look forward to trying them with different chocolates on Valentine's Day. This is an interesting venue with exceptional deep and complex wines. Very impressive.
