Our plans were originally going to take us to North Carolina for horseback riding, when an extended rain forecast at our destination caused us to change plans and find something closer to home to take advantage of the sunny weather back home. I can't imagine a better horseback riding experience. We called the morning our travel plans changed and asked if they had any rides that afternoon, they were quick to accommodate us. The riders were my wife and I, two boys ages 10 and 12. This area of Ohio reminded me of the smokey mountains, beautiful terrain. We singed up for the 2 hour ride which was the perfect starter ride for us though if you have kids in the 8-10 year range you might want to opt for the one hour ride. Our guide had us slowly build our riding skills without us knowing it, so as we became more comfortable we got to go through more challenging terrain, a little steeper climbs and downhillls, and riding around fallen trees and over smaller ones. It was never too much or too little. They got my boys and wife confidently up on their horses and riding, and the hilly terrain and occasional small creek-crossing kept them smiling. The horses were pretty calm and very well trained. I was surprised at how little touch it took to turn them, stop or get them moving. The horses were very well trained. We liked the guide's two dogs that meandered in and out of the line of horses throughout the trip, made us all feel like we were on a real cowboy outing :) We all enjoyed the ride, facilities and the guides. None of us had been on a horse before so we found this to be an excellent experience all the way around. Give yourself plenty of time to find Uncle Bucks, it is way off the beaten track but would you want it any other way? Last mile or so is a gravel road so you're out there!

Took my children and husband in mid July. The trail is very shaded, and was just about the most scenic horseback trail I have been on. The horses made me feel safe, they are treated well, and the staff was very kind to them.

We went on a Cowboy Cookout ride today...what an awesome adventure! We rode the trails for about 2 hours, then headed to the 'dining camp' out in the woods. The owner had been cooking us a complimentary meal over the fire....he's a darn good cook! Our guide was super friendly, and made us feel confident on our spotted horses. The horses were great, too - very well mannered, they responded well to us, and loved that we had our pockets stuffed with carrots!I HIGHLY recommend trying the Spotted Horse Ranch!!!!!

Great time, friendly and informative staff. the drive is WAY out there. but worth it - they did a great job of matching the horses to the people based on size and skills, answered questions, and really made it happen. Excellent.

We love visiting Uncle Buck's. Despite it's remote location, we always make it a point to take a ride here. No matter what your ability, they will be able to accommodate you. The path is great through the state forest and horses are very cooperative. We've never been disappointed here.

My family have gone to Uncle Bucks each October since our first trip there in 2003. Its in a beautiful setting in the Zaleski state forest. The drive from Lake Hope to Uncle Bucks is also beautiful. After the first mile, and after the LAST house, the road narrows and becomes one lane of gravel. I can't adequately describe just how beautiful this drive is during October! As the Uncle Bucks brochure states, "don't give up" on your way there. Just stay to the left at every intersection and you will find Uncle Bucks after first passing the site of the "haunted" Moonville tunnel and Lookout Rock. Both of those are worth a stop.Anyway, back to Uncle Bucks: the staff has always been very friendly and helpful and patient. As another reviewer wrote, the horses are well-trained and easy to ride. My daughter first rode alone when she was seven years old, so that shouid tell you something about the horses. We have always taken the one-hour ride, and have enjoyed it every time, in all types of conditions ranging from muddy to dusty dry, from sunny to drizzly. For the past few years we have also eaten our lunch there after our 10am ride. The food is good, home-cooked food that is reasonably priced. We normally play cornhole and enjoy a fire in the nearby firepit while waiting for our food to be served. If you enjoy the outdoors, then this place is for you. I'm sure that its beautiful any time of the year, but I have only been there in October. We have always called about a month ahead to make reservations, but reservations aren't required. The cost for rides is $25 per hour, per horse (unless it has increased since Oct. 2011). Would not recommend for any riders coming from Zaleski horsemen's camp. We have rode out there TWICE and they have closed early. After the 1st time I called the 2nd time to verify that they was open and they said they was. I also stated that our first attempt they closed early and they assured me they would be open. So...we rode our horses there with two children under the age of 10 to eat. They was CLOSED! Will never go again...horrible customer service!!!!

I haven't been horseback riding since riding in Yosemite National park 16 years ago Our family decided to do something different the last time we went to Hocking Hills and I am really glad we went horseback riding at this location. The terrain was fantastic because the riding paths winded through a beautiful park and was completly wooded and private. The horses were very friendly and very well trained. The location was a little difficult to find so make sure you have correct directions. The staff were friendly and the whole experience was very relaxing. We plan to definitely go again and might go after a snow sometime this Winter.
