Thank you for your visit and review of Don Carter State Park. We are glad that you chose to try our new RV Campground. The other side of the park offers intimate, primitive campsites where each site is not visible to the next. Many tent campers choose it for privacy. However, I understand that your interest was for power access. The RV Campground is diverse with back into sites, pull thrus, secluded sites and those that are designed as "buddy sites" (closer together). We are a new park and constantly growing. Your review is helpful as we plan to open a tent campground with power, water, and plenty of privacy. Coming on board this summer will be hiking trails (with campsites), equestrian trails, paddle boats and more playgrounds. We hope everyone is excited about summer as we are!

Don Carter State Park has some nice, short trails (3 miles round trip) adjacent to the water. The trails are natural, but that was a perfect diversion for 2 dogs and their humans. The park is very well kept with a nice visitor center.

I went with a friend to explore and walk the trails. We found it to be very clean and family friendly. I wasn't expecting such a nice beach and camping area. Really great place to check out.

We have camped here several times and find the park itself lovely, with an attractive beach and several good hiking trails. The campground, although neat and clean, is a little too sterile due to the lack of mature trees and acres of blacktop (makes you wonder about who benefited from the contract with the builder). Sites are very close together and walking across the steaming tarmac to get to the bathroom or your site is not an enjoyable way to spend an August weekend.

Thank you for your review of Don Carter State Park. We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your visit and had a good time at the beach. Safety reasons are why we cannot allow boats or jet skis to approach the beach/swimming area. You can imagine how dangerous it could become on a busy day with children swimming and multiple boaters coming in and out. We invite folks to use the courtesy dock up the sidewalk and down the paved trail from the beach area. We look forward to seeing you and your family again!

A very pleasant place to get away from it all for the day. There is a long drive from the road to the park, which is good because you do not hear road noise in the park. The manmade beach on Lake Lanier was white and clean. Bring a picnic lunch, then walk off the calories on one of their many hiking trails. You can even bring your boat and launch it there. Not crowded. No riff-raff. Clean. Relaxing.

This park was just opened in 2014 and is located on the shores of Lake Lanier off Clarks Bridge Rd. Nice picnic facilities, RV spaces (I believe has 30 and 50 amp svc with black water dump at many sites but gray water is a specific single dump station not at the sites) Well maintained.

We spent a weekend camping with our 32 foot travel trailer. We took advantage of the Groupon they had for 2 nights for $30. After booking it over the phone I was told that the reservation is not site specific which I normally hate. We arrived about 6PM on Friday checked in, the staff at registration was really friendly and advised us to just go to the second camping entrance due to the first one being full. We pulled in to the second entrance as advised and saw a spot immediately and tried to take it but we were a bit too long so decided to keep going. We rounded a corner and saw 2 fifth wheels side by side and the next lot was vacant. We pulled right through. We were across from the camp host, which most people probably wouldn't like but he was so busy riding around on the golf cart we barely noticed him. It was spot #36. Yes, the spots are close together but really you don't notice since the back side of the camper is facing your neighbors. I felt the campsite's had a decent amount of shade, but of course like any other campground some have more than others. The bathrooms & showers were very clean and still new. The beach swimming area was a bit small but my kids really only play in the sand anyway which was bright white beach sand. We walked the trail one day which actually backs up to some campsites. Overall, we enjoyed this campground and like the fact it close to home.

Tight on corners, but the pull thru's were level. Would have been nice to have grass around the rv. It was gravel. We stayed 10 nights in a 26 in.rv while visiting our children. Lots of beautiful trees and areas to walk. Saw deer near the feeder. Will definitely be back.

Don Carter State Park is immaculately kept up, clean and has many open spades. Parking is easy to find. The pavilions for pic-nics and get-together are great. The grills are very well kept and there are plenty of trash receptacles close by as well. Playgrounds and swings are plenty. We did not camp here but did observe the camping areas and they look very nice with plenty of electric and water hook ups die RV's and fire pits for primitive campers.

We have not had the chance to camp here. But my husband and I rode thru here and checked out some of the camping spots. Loved the lake and the beach. The picnic areas were very clean and we do place to take our RV very soon. They are open year round.

This is a new park with some construction left to finish. It looks very well maintained. I'm sure the park will have travelers from all over.

New state park near to Gainesville and Atlanta. Lots of rolling hills .Some RV campsites are tight. Nice beach and water activities.

This is a beautiful state park facility that opened last year (2013). We stayed in one of the cottages on the lake and had a fabulous time! The cottages are gorgeous and clean, and I hope the park is able to continue to maintain them to this level. We spent 3 nights/4 days at the park and were never bored. We rented kayaks (from the Visitor Center) for $25/half day and had an amazing time exploring the lake and watching for all the wildlife. We also spent our days fishing, hiking, biking, going to the beach, grilling and just chilling! We will definitely be back soon and the kids can't wait!

It is a very new and nice park. My husband and I did primitive camping for one night in July. Currently, they have these nice little carts, that you can use to carry your camping gear to your site because you can’t park where you are camping. I can’t remember the camp site number we were at but we had to go up a hill to get to it (which is close to parking but not that close when you have a bunch of stuff to carry). The site we camped at was secluded and had a beautiful view of the stars but was not leveled. This is important because over the course of the night, my husband gradually slide toward me in the tent. I believe that all of the sites are very secluded and has a dirt campsite verses gravel or anything else. I believe that none of the campsites have easy access to the river for fishing but some are in walking distance. The restrooms are nice but didn’t have a shower. The parking area does have a water pump and they have it currently equipped with portable toilets and a fish cleaning station (which I thought was nice, even though we didn’t catch anything). It also has a nice up to date playground for the kids.We didn’t get to walk any of the trails.Really nice park though. I plan to camp there again to check out the other camp sites.
