Valerie and Liberty Seekee conduct bus tours of the WW2 sites related to Horn Island being an important air base, the closest one in Australia to New Guinea. There are slit trenches, anti-aircraft gun sites, machine gunsites and so on most in good condition considering that they've been there now for 70 years or so. There's also the wreck of an American B17 super fortress. In their museum, in which most of the exhibits have been collected by themselves, there is a very extensive display of wartime material. Most Australians would not know the history of Horn Island in the war nor that it was the second most bombed part of Australia (after Darwin and before Broome) Also, there are native artefacts. The museum is situated within their resort which has a nice pool, comfortable looking rooms and a restaurant in which the elder Seekees serve excellent Chinese fare. Don't go to Thursday Island without visiting this attraction.
