Gordie and Felicia Church are experienced guides for your Horseback and Photo Safaris on the Masai Mara game preserve. Safaris Unlimited is a third generation Kenyan family owned company; they also employ other professional guides to fill your days with incredible wildlife and scenic landscape viewing opportunities whether riding on your personally selected and responsive horse or in a well appointed Land Rover. Their well trained and attentive staff will anticipate and accommodate your every need. There were eight of us from Kentucky, all experienced horsemen and women and we all agreed that the trek across the Mara was unforgettable. The four camps we visited over our nine day safari were chosen for their unique settings and wildlife. The weather on the savannah (between 5,000 and 6,500 ft. above sea level) was much cooler than expected with crisp dry air in the morning and evening. It was pleasant the entire eight nights and nine days on Safari, even when we experienced some late afternoon and evening rain. There was always a variety of food and drink, all of the highest quality, expertly presented, flavorful and hearty. Gordie and Felicia planned the itinerary carefully and provided the opportunity to view a diverse collection of wildlife and scenery. Their knowledge of the Mara and the wildlife allowed us to approach and photograph a variety of species. It seemed like there was something new and unique each day. Words are inadequate to describe the experience which was literally a feast for the senses. There is a special energy in the Mara, a blend of the wild, the sophisticated and the spiritual. There is always the possibility of the unexpected and unique on the Mara, particularly with a team like Gordie and Felicia Church leading the way. None of us were disappointed by any aspect of the Safari. In fact, we all agreed that the experience had far exceeded our expectations. The staff was remarkably warm and attentive throughout. Our accommodations (safari style tents complete with beds, storage area, private bath and wash area) were first rate and comfortable, The hot water bottles awaiting in the Egyptian Cotton sheets every night was just one example of the attention to detail and genuine concern for the comfort and well being of the guests. Laundry was done every other day. Coffee and tea were available with the wake up greeting, "Jambo" from a cheerful staff member or two. Breakfast in camp, or a sit down brunch or a mid day meal on the trail, were always a pleasant surprise. Dinners were extraordinary. The literature provided by the outfitter in preparation for the safari was accurate and instructive. If the recommendations are followed, you will be prepared for a wonderful, lifetime impacting experience.
