Spending time at the Grande Marche is one of the most enjoyable ways to pass the hot hours of a Niamey afternoon. One can find everything there: traditional outfits, beaded jewelry, shoes, pots, school supplies, stereo equipment, bed spreads, sunglasses, mosquito nets - and anything else one may be searching for. The market is vibrant and normally packed with people, so keep an eye on your wallet, though there is no need to be too afraid of theives. Remember to bargain, and keep your eyes on where you're walking, as the paths are often cluttered with goods and sometimes puddles. After shopping, I recommend lunch at the Baobob restaurant, on the road the connects the Grande Marche and Round Point Maourey. They have great Senegalese dishes. The Petite Marche is also worth a visit, and has lots of food items, housewares, cloth, and calabashes. Ignore the little boys offering to carry your bags, and they will eventually leave you alone. Unless, of course, you want someone to carry your bags.

A dir poco incredibile.
