We paid $4.00 to get in per person. So for us that was $25.00. The elderly man tells us they haven't planted a tree in "a lonnnggg" time. Said we can pick a precut from someone else's farm that they had on display or climb a 20 foot tree and cut the top off of it. There were only 3 animals in the petting zoo and they wanted additional money to ride the train. We ended up going to Jones Farm a few miles away and having a much nicer experience.

My family and I have come to applewood farm every year to cut down our Christmas tree. Upon arriving, we were greeted by smiling faces and the friendly owner. Applewood has changed a lot over the years, from the new management, to redesigning the inside of the barn, and selling new items from local businesses. However, some changes at applewood have not been as positive as many of their upgrades. Unfortunately, applewood no longer has reindeer (this used to really get my family in the holiday spirit!) or horse drawn carriage rides, although I did see pony rides when I came in the fall. The tree selection at applewood might not be as good as at other local farms, but that isn't why my family comes to applewood each year—we come for the experience. I am thankful that a family business like applewood farm still operates in my community.

We went to applewood farms to create a memory for our first Christmas together. Applewoods website advertised fresh cut trees or a Wagon ride to the field for cut your own tree. Upon arrival we was charged 16 dollars for admission. I could accept that price if they had anything to offer. It was drizzling with rain that day so no Wagon ride and no outside activities. All the trees they had to cut were 20 foot tall bushes. So the field was not a option. We paid 16 dollars just to be told they didn't have any activities or field trees. Applewood is a bunch of money hungry crooks! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY GOING! They should Be ashamed!

Don't go there if you plan on cutting down a tree because they don't have any , the guy said feel free to cut down any of the 20 feet trees , but you might need a ladder, it cost $4.00 each just to go in , we thought that included riding the train , but no, it cost another $4.00 each to do that , which we did not pay, luckily my grandson didn't get upset , petting zoo consist of a goat , donkey , and a sheep , what a joke !!! I will never go back , left empty handed , went to a real Christmas tree farm .

My teenage daughter and I were expecting something different. It is a great place for young children but not for teens. Also the only apples I saw were a bushel with prices listed and gallons of cider for sale. Not sure why we had to pay $4 a piece to get in. Definitely go if you have young children otherwise skip this attraction.

My daughter is almost 3 and when we were looking for a place with an authentic pumpkin patch in the pumpkin field, I stumbled on Applewood. From the website, it boasted tons of activities that in reality are pretty lame - even a toddler is bored. For example, the bowling is literally a tiny square near the corn maze with one set of plastic bowling pins and a ball. Wow... The train ride, which is an additional $4 per person is a rip off. Yes, it's neat riding through the small section of woods but the ride is over in 5 minutes. Their petting zoo is literally a horse, a donkey, and a goat. Again, nothing exciting. The tractor pulls they boast of are just a bunch of tricycles in a paved circle. I did like the big cornstalk maze though. The ONLY reason we still come here every year is because of the pumpkin patch, so for us, the $4 a person admission to the farm is worth it. The rest of the activities we pretty much skip, reasons mentioned above. They take you on a "hayride" which had no hay by the way, down to the pumpkin patch field and you pick your pumpkins off the vine.Basically, unless you want the authentic pumpkin patch experience, skip Applewood and go to Milburn Orchards in Elkton. They have TONS more activities, apple picking, horse rides, you name it. See my review for Milburn Orchards for more details on what's there. A little more expensive but worth it.

We went to Applewood Farm on December 14 th 2013 to buy a tree. No lights No signs .. It looked really desolate, not like what we remembered before There were no lights ,no signs and no real trees to cut down only precut ones. They told us that the precut trees were just cut a week ago , but when we got it home and put it up , all the needles fell off in 4 days so we had to purchase another the following weekend . We will not be back!!

Two weeks ago, my family and I went to Applewood Farms. I was excited that Harford County had an attraction for Christmas lights, instead of driving out to Baltimore or to Hershey. The kids were excited that there was a petting zoo and an opportunity to see trains and stop for hot cocoa along what was advertised as a "mile long." First of all, it's no where near a mile long. The "stop" half-way for refreshments and train display was in an unlit, unheated building. There was no indication that it was open, and in fact the only sign stated, that the path from the (unlit) lot was for vehicles only. Let me be clear - there was no lighting in the lot, the pathway, or the building. The small building housed two train displays, but only one train out of everything was operating. The "petting zoo" (which was mentioned upon our arrival), I could only discern through a hole in a wall which looked down upon 2 donkeys. I don't know if there was anything else, because the grounds around the building were UNLIT. We entered through a blanket hanging in a doorway - No smell of baked goods, no warmth, no cheer, unfortunate employees bundled up against the cold, teenagers sitting in the ticket booth upon entrance (who told us they were only sitting to have a seat), because all the other attractions were closed. We walked to the train display - to watch one train chugging. Looked at the greens for $4/bag (free anywhere else). And then hurried out to warm up in the car. We thought, this can't be "halfway" because there was only one light display, and we set off to look at the lights. But it was. The road had another 3 lit up displays and that's it. I couldn't believe it. I was beyond disappointed because this was not only for Christmas, but also for the kids to enjoy and for a family event for my youngest son's birthday.

Went to applewood farm yesterday hoping to find or Christmas tree and cut it down as a family. To bad my family does not live in a Church or school. Lol the only trees available to cut down were 20 ft tall. What normal home can house that. We made the drive almost an hour and we're very disappointed we wound up buying a pre cut down tree who knows how old. For $65 an 9 ft tree how ridiculous. And they also charge $2 to drill and $2 to shake the tree.i would never go back save your money and support your local lions club and buy a tree for $40. Hope this helps merry Christmas

We took our daughter and grand children last night for the bright light ride. I paid $10.00 for her car and $10.00 for ours. This was a total waste of money and time. A few light decorations, that was it. It was very dark where we parked, there was a huge log right beside my door when I got out of the car. The barn was nothing to brag about. We do like trains, we were not impressed by theirs. I am from Harford County and I would be embarassed for people outside the county to think this is what entertains us here. I can't speak for the other events there, but I do hope they discontinue the night ride.

My husband and I wanted to take our three grandkids (7, 5 and 5) on a Sunday Christmas outing and, after looking around, I thought Applewood Farm looked like just the thing. The drive from Rockville, MD was longer than I would have liked, but with the train, petting zoo, maze, and the other attractions I read about, I assumed it would be a whole day's worth of fun. Luckily, the day dawned overcast and cold but clear, not rainy as they said, so we packed the kids and took off -- when we arrived it looked like there were a lot of cars, so we were excited ... until we got out and the "pedal cars" they had mentioned on the site came into view ... there on a small blacktop, sat a few old metal toy cars on which very small children could sit. I had a sinking feeling, but was determined to stay positive. All in all, my husband and I felt a bit duped --- they advertised a Santa's Workshop which proved to be a collection of several figures behind a chickenwire net, their train ride (which we knew cost $4 per person extra) took us on a very non-exciting tour through some underbrush, and the kids had their faces painted by a young woman for free (we tipped her) who we can't say for sure really wouldn't rather have been somewhere else. The thing that saved the whole day was the playground -- the kids played on this more than on anything else. We were happy to see them having a great time, but there are playgrounds a whole lot closer to home!! All this said, the people who were running the train were very friendly and sincerely hoped we had a good time. The folks inside the barn were not as much so, but since there wasn't much in there, we didn't have to mingle much. (The store is VERY small with a very limited stock of mostly farm-related -- i.e., John Deere, etc. -- playthings). I don't like to leave negative reviews, so I will say this: If Applewood Farms were within a 45-minute drive radius, I might visit annually. However, I wouldn't make this trek again! (The admission was free, by the way, which was a good thing!)

We've gone here for the last two years for pumpkin picking and we're going back this year. It's a nice farm, lots of pumpkins! The have a train ride for the kids but it's extra money, which is a little disappointing since you paid to get in. Also to buy the tickets to the train, it's all up the hill from the actual ride so make such buy them before you head down to the train. It's kind of annoying to go up and down the hill when you have a bunch of kids and strollers with you just to buy the tickets. The train ride is kind of crappy but the kids seem to enjoy it, that's what counts. They also have a tractor ride to take you to pick pumpkins in a field. They drop you off in the field for about 20mins and then come back you. The farm also has a little playground area and small metal tractors for the little ones to play on. I seriously couldn't pull my little guy away from the small tractor. There are animals at the farm but you can't pet them or at least I wouldn't, they look like they do bite. We just look at them and move on to the next thing.

My husband my 2 year old and I came to Applewppd Farm today to cut our Xmas tree down. When we got there it looked very exciting. We noticed some trees on the right but not many and they where very large. We thought maybe they would take u in the tractor to where the trees where. So we got in the tractor and they drove us down the hill and stopped where the very large trees where.. Everyone (which was about 20 of us) just kinda sat there like what do we do. The driver told us to go ahead and get off. And then he left and left us there with no direction. I honestly thought it was a joke. So we walked up in hopes that maybe the smaller trees where in between the very large trees. I was very wrong. Those where the trees!!!! I was very upset. We drove an hour because the website made it look very festive with great trees to choose. We tried to make our time worth while and went to the petting zoo. We were informed by another guest that if you try to pet the mini horse without any food he will bite. We however did have the horse feed they offered. But we tried to warn another lil girl and she got bit. I am very disappointed with this experience and do not plan to return.
