A one stop shop, more or less, to accommodate the trail rider. Convenient location to the C & O Canal and the Rail Trail.

Right beside the C&O Canal and the western Maryland Rail Trail, it offers rental bikes, experienced mechanics, and bicycle supplies. Also, for bicycle campers, they have a 16-bed screened-in bunkhouse with hot showers for only $10 per person.

I was riding the C and O and Gap and needed a front wheel trued and he did a great job. I left a few bucks there by buying some new panniers but they made the trip much better.

Our group stopped over in Hancock for the night on our C&0/GAP adventure and stayed the night in the bunk house in the rear. Originally we all were going to camp out but had to get some much needed repairs before pressing on. Dennis dropped everything to help us out and special order a part that would arrive the following morning so we had to stay over. We all were very comfortable; there are 6 bunks (total of 12 beds) and a small lounge area. It was great to take a shower in Dennis’ bathhouse before hitting the town for dinner. On the way back we got some snacks at the Sheetz and a twelve-pack of suds from the local liquor store to complete our evening. In the morning, Dennis raised the rear entrance to his shop (a garage door) precisely at 8am. The much needed part arrived shortly after 10am so we were able to get a hardy breakfast around the corner and make some phone calls before hitting the trail and our destination in Cumberland. Highly recommend anyone stop over and visit Dennis, he has a great shop, lots of repair parts along with snacks and beverages. The accommodations in the bunk house cost us only $10 per person. A real bargain compared to the $110 to $175 price tag at most motels or B&B’s.

We made reservations a month in advance for "dennis" to provide a shuttle service for 4 of us from Georgetown to Pittsburgh over Memorial Weekend. His price was reasonable for the van, bicycle rack, and driver he provided for our needs. The van was clean & roomy enough for 5 adults to travel the 5 hr. trip comfortably. John was our driver. Very personable and agreeable. Stopping when we needed, suggesting convenient, clean places to stop for coffee/food/bathroom breaks. Once on the GAP/C&O trail my husband's bike needed some attention. Dennis's shop is right there where the trail crosses Hancock, MD. Dennis was pleasant and happy to hear about our positive experience with John. He was able to diagnose and fix my husbands bike, reasonably. We also purchased some snacks and drinks while waiting. I would definitely use this service again.

They were open at 8:AM!,,Friendly, helpful, curtious,, When you look uo customer service in the dictionary, you should se a picture of these hard workers. Clean, relaxed genuine care, thats how you feel when your talking with them. If your riding through to from D.C to Cumberland or just doing the Western Maryland Rail Trail, You have to stop at this shop, While your there, check out one of the best deals for lodging along the C&O, the chicken coup is a " Gotta try it " attraction. Great service, fair pricing, clean enviroment.. We will definety stop here again on furture trips.

C&O Cycle Shop is a beacon of hope in the remote expanses of western Maryland along the towpath and WMRT. Dennis Hudson, the proprietor, is a very skilled and competent cycle mechanic who will drop everything to fix your machine and get you back on the trail. His shop is well stocked with repair parts, accessories, and cycling merchandise. He also rents cycles and sells new cycles and consignment bikes. Check out Dennis’ “Bunk House” in the back. You have to spend a night here; it’s a trail tradition to sleep in the “Chicken Coops”. Yes it’s Spartan but what do you expect for $10 per person. There is are Porta-Johns and a shower, Dennis will even throw in the towels. Very close to Weavers, grocery store, hardware store, laundry-mat, two bars and a liquor store. Recommend you call ahead for availability and pricing.
