JOJ Frost's paintings capture Marblehead life and shouldn't be missed! Great for children and adults.

I love the J.O.J. Frost Gallery. You learn so much about Marblehead History as well as about how one citizen remembered the old days of fish flakes and the 1846 Great Gale. A must visit - will only take 15-30 minutes.

JOJ's story - peddling his prolifery from a cart, while townspeople crossed the street to avoid him - is the wry backdrop to the disarmingly intricate historical depictions, done in primitive style, with, of all things, house paints! Wish I could have seen his brushes. His painting of the gale and loss of boats, lives and ruined families - a wide panel - reminded me of contemplating Picasso's Guernica. Both deeply profound messages in artistic tableaux, for generations to learn, ponder and mourn.
