Any time of year is right for a stroll on quaint Main St. and enjoy the independently owned shops and restaurants. It has a good feel and the ocean is nearby.

There are a number of shops, restaurants and bars along Main Street. In nice weather it is a good place for a walk.

My wife loves to shop in small family owned businesses. They line both sides of the main street and I found places to sit while she shopped.

Main Street is quaint with lots of unique shops to browse. There is even an upscale consignment shop with lots of vintage clothes.

Very nice walking the downtown streets to go into the local shops. Some are very eclectic. Nice walking along to also admire the architecture on many of the buildings.

Most stores don't open before 10 a.m. and none of the antique stores were open at all. You lost your opportunity for my business.

The area is cute with a few stores to go shopping. Had some restaurants and many art stores. Liked it better in Rockport since there was more to see.

I enjoyed looking around on Main St. and found myself liking the shops better than Rockport's tourist trappy ones. The parking was fine during the week, but I remember it being horrible on weekends. Use "Park and Ride" $3 hop off/on all day http://www.canntran.com/Trolley.cfm or Cape Ann Harbor Shuttle http://www.capeannharbortours.com/shuttle.html $10 hop on/off all day instead.

I ate at several of the restaurants on Main Street as well as shopped in many of the great gift and specialty shops. "Passports" is a wonderful restaurant with excellent service and delicious food.

Great eateries, consignment shops for funky clothes for a teen, amazing record store, and a jewelry shop with well kept secret estate items. Many artisan shops for tourists, but something to offer everyone including us locals.

If I were to move anywhere... it'd be to Gloucester. It's such a nice city and there's a lot to do. Tons of great places to eat and there's a candy shop, Turtle Alley Chocolates that I go out of my way to hit... and I don't even have a sweet tooth!

I am a local and there are very few shops I can afford on Main St. these days. I think what disappoints me the most is that the majority of the stores no longer reflect life in a small New England fishing town. I will say that I love Main St. in the snow around Christmas, but only for the holiday feel, not the stores or restaurants that the average local doesn't even patronize anymore.

Main Street is VERY touristy - but then, most people there are tourists. Several good restaurants, a great shoe store, two bookstores, two drugstores - there is a lot to find on Main Street. Several times a year there are street fairs, also - autumn is a better time to experience this, as there are mostly locals then. Only problem is that parking is difficult to find. But if you look a few blocks away, there is even free parking. (Don't think that you can get away with returning late to your car. The meter maid is on a Segway and will get there before you do. She won't argue with you, either. You get the ticket.)

but still great bargains at Bananas vintage jewelry and clothing shop. Art galleries also reduced prices. Coffee shop was still hopping place.

It is a great street with shops and restaurants with great food and small Italian coffee shops with nice dessers and espresso.
