If you are in the area this is a great little place to go. You need to check a map if you are in the Gloucester area, because you'll miss a quaint little artist area on the ocean, shop eat, sit in the sun and enjoy

I also went to Rocky Neck early in the Spring this year and my first gallery was Elynn Kroger's Gallery. I have to agree with YRI123 review and yes, Elynn isn't pleasant. English is my first language & I too felt 'misunderstood' by Elynn. I agree that she also made my friend and I uncomfortable (the only potential customers around for miles....) and wasn't making any attempt to be nice. When trying to make conversation with her about her art she seemed as if she was looking for a fight.I think Elynn may have many bad days I concur with YRI123. She made all the other artist in their galleries seem Saintly.

This is a pretty cute little area, but as people said: a lot of it is just people's houses so it's a bit awkward. Not worth a special trip, but we were in the area and it's nice to walk around on a nice day.I did want to say that in the first gallery we went into, Elynn Kroger's gallery, we had a pretty unpleasant experience. I was with my mother, who is an older woman who isn't a natural English speaker, and she was trying to be nice and make conversation with the artist. I don't really know why but something she said must have offended the artist, because she was quite rude and it was really uncomfortable and actually a little mean. I don't know if anyone else has had this experience or maybe she was just having a bad day or misunderstood my mom, but it was just a bad way to start the trip. The woman in the hobbit house, on the other hand, was lovely and welcoming. So check it out if you're around, but it's not really a huge attraction.

This is a small spot with very little to do or look at. It's also pretty grungy looking and a little dreary. There's a small sliver or two of beach area open to the public; the rest is jealously guarded by a few homeowners with beach frontage. Many of the "galleries" are in people's homes and open infrequently, at odd hours. Might be worth a visit if you're in the area anyway, but definitely not worth a special trip.

We thought it would be a bigger area, but there are only a handful of galleries, mostly in quaint little, funky painted houses. Everyone was very friendly to the browsers. It's a picturesque little spot and definitely should be visited when in the Cape Ann area. It's part of the appeal of that area of the coast. We ended up going back the next night to have dinner in one of the restaurants on the water there.

We found the Art Colony at the end of a road under construction with very little parking. While I understand that October is off-season, not a single gallery was open on a Thursday afternoon. There were about 1/2 dozen galleries in a small cul de sac. Very disappointing.

This is just a row of. Homes turned into studios and shops. It is not very big. I had my own idea of what an Artist Colony should look like, so I was disappointed .

OK so Rocky Neck isn't that big and parking can be tough in the summer but one needn't go in the summer. Great place to walk around. Stop in the galleries, poke around, look at the funky houses, stop downtown to eat, visit the beach. Great destination for a Sunday afternoon in the Fall or Spring. If you want to buy bring your wallet. This is not a flea market.

Everyone is friendly and appreciates visitors. This is a small area and easy to get around. It is a combination of fishing, food and art all in one place. The water shuttle is a fun and inexpensive way to connect to downtown.

You would think that would be a funny title for an Art Colony. But we thought it would have much more than painting galleries. We drove into Rocky Neck and drove right out. Perhaps we were there too early in the day. Or not on the right day. But all we saw were fancy galleries. We were hoping for more types of art such as pottery or sculptures. But it was just high end galleries.

We didn't go this time but other times, have always enjoyed visiting the area and browsing the shops.

Love the art work and decor beautiful houses across the street as well with a beautiful garden. Near by a few restaurants good place to go look at some art and have lunch or dinner.

A nice little venue for little art shops and restaurants but, the parking sucks. Your best be is to find a spot in the public parking lot right when you enter the neck - the walking is long but, pleasant.

Arty, quirky and a delight around every corner. Perfect place for a stroll in the evening and a waterside drink and meal.

I highly suggest walking around the art colony. It won't take long but there are definitely some hidden treasures!
