The Jefferson County Museum has seen better days, but it is not the fault of management. Those that volunteered to help there have slowly died off and there has been nobody to take their place. The population of the city is declining and along with it the tax base that runs the museum. Many problems experienced by the museum today go back many years. The city has been lucky to find a director with a degree in museum management who will work for the money she gets without any benefits such as retirement or medical. Not an enviable profession for this city. The exhibits might be better, but there is only so much that can be done by one person. It is worth visiting and could be better promoted by the tourist and visitors bureau.

Something to learn about the place and its history. There are some memoir and things display to look for. Just worth to visit if you are around the area.

I was very disappointed in the lack of luster overall appearance of the museum and the seemingly disinterest of the hostess/caretaker that gave all outward appearances of not careing if the visit was enjoyable or not.... we left!

Lots of history in this area, and this is a good place to get started on knowing what is important. I always take visitors by.

We visited the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Museum as part of the Arkansas 150th Civil War passport program. The museum took 45 minutes to tour and we were two of four people in the museum on a Saturday. The war exhibits were interesting and I especially enjoyed seeing the Sunbeam Girl. As my title states, visit if you're in Pine Bluff, but not worth going out of your way.

The Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Historical Museum is located in the old Cotton Belt railroad depot. The exhibits are changed on a regular basis because they have so much in storage. There is a large exhibit on the Civil War and the battle in the streets of the city in 1863. The company flag of the Jefferson Guards, a local Confederate unit is on permanent display. It is a nice little museum that deserves a city that appreciates it.
