This was a random stop that turned out to be quite memetable. Lots of history, great exhibit, and very knowledgable staff. The gallows were a little creepy, but seeing the jail and the history of the area was nice.

Stand in the same spot as all the Native Americans did when they were on the TRAIL OF TEARS. My children loved this place because they had room to run and also learned about the Native Americans long walk.

A great way to spend an afternoon, especially a chilly one! We were fortunate to have a volunteer for the NPS take us on a guided tour through the courthouse/prison museum. The gentleman was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the site. I learned quite a bit about the Ft. Smith area and its place in America's history.

when the weather is nice this is a pleasant family day trip. This area is full of history. There is also a malt shop. When you've had enough history.

The national park service takes care of the Fort on the edge of Fort Smith. It showcases Judge Parker, the gallows, the original jail, and lots of history. The trolley ride right next to the site was also very cool. It all was very affordable and well worth the afternoon we spent. My kids even loved it.

This museum is certainly well worth your time. The history of this area is covered in such detail that it is beyond impressive. The leisurely walk to the river provides an extra delight and the information concerning The Trail of Tears exhibit at the water's edge is not to be missed. We spent five hours and had to return the next day.

Great History of the Fort Smith Wild West Era and it was neat to interact with the museum and be able to witness the jail and feel the inmates that are there in spirit! :-)

The food was delicious. Price reasonable. Different options compared to other Mexican food. Staff helpful with making choices. Will be sure to eat here any time in Ft Smith

The place is fantastic. The gallows and prison were moving. The grounds are well kept. The rangers were helpful and informative. I spent a couple of hours wandering. It was more than worth the time. A valuable lesson in American history and our expansion westward.

We spent the whole day here and could have stayed longer. Start by seeing the movie at the park visitor center, which is in the restored fort building, so you get an overview of why this is a National Historic Site. Then ask for a tour, they'll tell you some stories of the good and bad men and women who passed through this fort. When we were there, they gave a lecture on the Civil War to a college class and demonstrated how to fire a cannon. Judge Parker, the so-called hanging judge, is not what you think. Find out about him and also about the hangman. If you go to the gallows, they have an interesting audio recording. Be sure to push the button to hear it. While the buildings are beautifully restored, the grounds themselves are lovely. Perfect for a nice stroll over to the City of Fort Smith visitor center. The center is in a restored bordello and you may ask for a tour of that. It's also very interesting. There's a small entrance fee for adults, but age 15 and younger are free. Also there are six fee-free days or weekends next year. Check out the website at nps.gov/buff for tons of great info!

Liked: New museum and being asked to send in pictures of my Father's days during the 50'5.Dislike: Could no longer enter the main area without a military active/retirement id.

Really enjoyed the grounds and seeing this piece of history. Lots to see all in this one location. We ran short on time so did not get to see it all but the parts we did see were very historic from Judge Parker's chambers to the restored hanging Gallows. Especially enjoyed the outdoors walking trails and Trail of Tears Overlook.
