This museum had a pile of interesting information, was clean, well put together, and took hours to look at it all! If you enjoy history, then this is certainly a museum for you to visit. Everything is a look-at-your own pace and very enjoyable.

It costs $5 a head but it's worth it. There is a very nice collection of WWII memorabilia relating to Alaska, Prince William Sound, the war effort and the people of Whittier. Very educational to some items that I didn't even know happened (or only had a vague recollection). Like the only Japanese attack on US soil and the dirigible that went over the North Pole.

We were in Whittier for about 6 hours between our ferry from Valdez and taking the train to Anchorage. You can see the town of Whittier in about 20 minutes and were looking for sometging to pass the time. We stored our luggage at the Ice Cream shop not far from the Ferry terminal ($3 a bag) and were told to check out the museum. Yje museum is housed next to a hotel and shares the building with a grocery store. Admission is $5, on the honor system. I was not expecting a lot, but I was amazed. This is truly a labor of love put together by the archivist and really deserves a much bigger venue. Really enjoyed the different viewpoints given on certain events. The Japanese occupation of two Aleutian islands is given from the American and Japanese point. Rare diary out takes of the Battle for Attu from the Japanese Doctors point are priceless. This iss not your normal, look at what we did history, this is a history of Arctic exploration and explorers whether they be American, Russian, Spanish etc. This is definitely worth the time to explore if you're looking to spend a bit of time in Whittier

This was a lovely museum, and a great value with a recommended $5.00 donation for each person. It only has business hours and is in a section of the Anchor Inn (a Whittier Motel), right next to the convenience store. Each exhibit in this museum was personal accountings of pioneers to Alaska or soldiers in Alaska during WWII which made it feel up close and personal. All of the WWII uniforms and other memorabilia and journal entries depicting true events was super educational and filled in pieces to the puzzle.

For $5, you can get in and be informed of the history of Prince William Sound. If you're into history, you should definitely visit this. If you're not into museums, it's still worth a visit to support their tourism. Anyway, it's just a small place; only one room, in fact. You won't get bored. Not a bad bargain.

Husband and I learned quite a bit of this town by visiting the museum. Recommend checking it out. Don't go with high expectations but with an open mind to what a small town provides.

I am so glad we didnt linger on the cruise ship and miss this. 5 dollar bargin! We thought that this small Museum would take care of the couple of hours we had in the morning between the time we left the cruise ship and took the 26 Glacier tour at noon. We were so very impressed with the way the voices of the past spoke through this. It is not an interactive museum and not for non-readers. But the history presented was very well done and my husband and I who love museums and history felt like we came away with a better understanding of this area of the world and the challenges it has faced. The only downside is getting there was a bit confusing but the town is so small that you cant get too lost.

My husband and I enjoyed the amount of history in this little museum while we were exploring this wonderful little town (Whittier). Take the time to become more knowledgeable about this area. We are so glad we did!
