The close proximity to town and alternate access from the Goldbelt Tram(for a price) makes this trail extremely popular. The tram is located in the middle of the Cruise ship dock downtown and the trailhead is located just after the trestle bridge on Basin Road. The initial ascent is much more friendly than its cousin across the valley, Mt. Juneau. About two miles up the trail, users will hit the Mountain House which, during the summer, is a nice bathroom stop and water fill up before continuing on. The Nature Center across the way has updated trail and weather information. There are guided and self guided tours, as well as information plaques around a half mile loop from the top of the tram.A popular stop is Father Browns Cross, a replica on the cross that volunteers built when constructing the trail in 1908. From there, this trail is full of false summits. Mt. Roberts proper is about 3 miles of steady rocky incline ending at about 3800 feet. The last half mile along Gold Ridge is covered in beautiful alpine grasses and lush low brush. When the snow clears it is a wonderful place to nap on a warm sunny day. With a beautiful view of the ocean from the west side and a spectacular view of the Silver Bow basin and mountains beyond from the east, Roberts earns a top picnic spot for Juneau. The trail crosses very little water, making it unusual for Juneau. A bit drier alpine forest than many parts of Juneau making it great for a multitude of flowers mid summer. In the summer, Paragliders can often be seen launching from a slight outcrop not far from Father Browns cross. All in all, this trail is a great way to gain a commanding view with minimal effort whether you take the tram or hoof it!

The gondola ride up to Mt. Roberts give you a wonderful view of the inner passage and the surrounding mountains. The trails at the top are well worn and you won't get lost, but you can spend a lot of time up there. There is also a gift shop and restaurant at the top, so if you get tired or cold you can stop in to rest and get a great meal as well.

If you're looking for a bit of exercise out in the beautiful outdoors, Mt. Roberts is a fairly easy to moderate hike and rather short (don't know distance, but if you're fit it shouldn't take more than an hour or so from the trail head to tram). You'll be hiking mostly in the woods, w/ little glimpses of the Gastineau Channel along the way, but once you get to the "top" (where the tram is, as you can continue ascending once there as well), you'll be treated to spectacular views of the channel.

I took the tram up (read tram review) and the views are fantastic. There is a big gift shop, restaraunt, restrooms...The trails are in good shape and offer great views. I hiked for quite awhile and enjoyed the beautiful nature and the peace and quiet. If you are a hiker or just enjoy hte outdoors this is a must. you can hike as far as you like. there are several trails and you are treated to beauty all along the hike.

If your someone like me who loves the outdoors and nature itself, this is for you. Even if your not, this would still be a good tour. The scenic view at the top of the mountain is absolutely breathtaking. My husband and I went to Alaska for our honeymoon and were just amaze with the natural beauty that Alaska has to offer. The trail itself is a long way up but you have amazing views at every level and may even spot a bear or two on the way. A long walk up but oh so worth it, trust me.

The tram gives an easy way to climb the Mt Roberts in Juneau. The glass windows on the tram give great views of Juneau and the surrounding area. The trails at the top are fun for kids and adults to explore.

This trail, either by tram, or by foot, is worth hiking. Multiple scenic views will entertain, along with surreal panoramas. Bring water, and DEET in the summer. Access to raingear is wise.

One of my most memorable sights of Southern Alaska. The Mount Robert tram takes you high above the port city. From there you can see the city of Juneau in the distance. We hiked about 2 miles up. The mountains and valleys are stunning.

A much nicer (and cheaper) way to get up Mt. Roberts than the tram. It's a decent hike, especially from the docks, but I found that it was worth the time and effort. My 3 year old and 9 year old both made it up without much of an issue. Great views, a couple of lookouts along the way, and an invigorating hike.

The mountain hike was invigorating. When the cloud cover moved about each corner we turned gave another fantastic view of the Gasineau Channel.

We rode the sky box to the top of Mount Roberts on a drizzly day in September. It was a might view down on the city and we were able to see birds on the trails and lovey flora everywhere. Then it became apparent that the heavens were going to open up and let it all flow freely. One bear popped out for 5 minutes and that was the icing on our Mount Roberts experience!

I took the tram up and hiked for about 90 min. before turning back-views were spectacular even though the weather was not great-started out with mist, light rain but gradually cleared-trail is fairly wide and well marked-a couple coming down said they made to the icefield before turning back-wish I was 30 yrs younger!

We walked from the top of the tramway to the Cross. We weren't really dressed for hiking, but did have appropriate footwear. We did this while in our ship was in port. The day we went the weather was warm, so dress accordingly and take plenty of water. We did decide to hike back to Juneau from the platform and the trail is very steep and some places have mud. It has been a week since we hiked back down the mountain and my toes are still hurting and sore from being jammed against my hiking boots on the way back down. If you're not a real experienced hiker, like me, just be prepared for an extremely steep body jaring walk. The trail was so beautfiul; however, I would do it all over again.

Very doable hike if you give yourself time. Many locals run the trail to the top in under an hour. The area at the top is interesting as well.

Absolutely beautiful views up on Mt Roberts. If you have the time do and take the time to walk around and enjoy the surrounding! It's intense so wear comfy shoes and a rain coat.
