Few people know that the Aleutian Islands were attacked, and some of them were occupies by the Japanese during World War II. This visitor center/museum tells the story from the Japanese attack. The relocation of the Aleute people to terrible conditions, and the story of the US Military presence in the Aleutians and the retaking of the occupies islands from thr Japanese. All of this is well presented through artifacts, photographs and letters to tell the story. The exhibits tell the story of US GI's in terrible conditions through the war protecting the western frontier of the United States.

Just back from a business trip to Unalaska. Delayed getting out because of weather and started to wander around. Stumbled upon the WWII center right at the airport and was blown away by the story the center told. The bombing in 1942 by the Japanese, the internment of the Aleuts by the military and the invasion and recapture of Kiska and Attu. Well done!
