My husband and I went to Birmingham, AL for visiting our friends, who usually go this place on weekends. They had the incredible idea of driving us to Redneck Yacht club. This was our first time kayaking and we loved it! Kayaking tour is a must do for anyone traveling close to Piedmont, AL.After being well equipped with a cooler with cokes, beers, chips and other snacks, swimsuits and sunscreen, we left our car at the parking spot. There is a van which drives you to the beginning of the river, where you rent individual kayak ($30) or double kayaks ($50) for going down the river. We spent 4.5 hours on this place, it was incredible. There are spots where you can get out and eat, swim or just enjoy yourself and the beautiful views.Make sure you do the “waterfall”…

Last Saturday some friends and I drove to Piedmont and had a true adventure. We went down the Terrapin Creek from the Redneck Yacht Club. I loved the fact that they shuttle you back to your yak so that when you are finished you are at your truck. The put in spot was great and the take out was amazing. We had originally said we would take our yaks out ourselves but when we saw the point of exit we changed our minds and paid the extra five dollars to have them do it. So glad we did!! The float itself was wonderful. Just enough fast water to make it interesting but not scary. Had planned to go again this week but the weather is not cooperating. If you do go be sure and check out the method they use to pull the yaks out.......its' priceless.

This was our 2nd trip down the terrapin. Wish I had more free days or I'd be going a lot more here! Hank (the owner) is a super guy, and really takes care of you. This is for the very extreme novice kayaker, to even the better. It's such a nice mix of rapids (not too bad) and some nice calm spots where you can sit back and enjoy the beauty! The highlight of the trip was the "waterfall". Just as you cross under the bridge there is a drop off. You do not have to go down it, you can pull your boat around it and put back in. You HAVE to go down at least once, it really is a nice rapid to maneuver! The trip if your really paddling a lot can be over in 2 1/2-3 hrs...but there are also do many beach side shores you can pull over and get out and eat and take a swim and just enjoy yourself! We will def. go back again using these guys! It's $30 to rent a kayak and go down the creek. If you have your own boat it will cost you $5. We drove from GA which is about an hour drive just to do it, so it's def. worth it! Must try, and these guys are awesome!
