carnegie visual arts center

This museum is very well layed out whether you are an art lover or not. When you arrive, you are immediately put into a trance that warms the hearts as you look at the magnificent creations by many local artist. A must see for any lover of the arts!

I moved here 8 years ago and hoped there would be many museum activities. The Carnegie just does not have enough. They used to have 3rd Fridays with cocktails and art and that is not happening any longer. They need many more artists and variety. More eclectic is needed.

Great little non-profit art center that is extremely involved in activities in downtown Decatur, AL, such as the Carnegie Carnival celebration during Mardi Gras. The facility hosts various art exhibits throughout the year. Memberships are encouraged and donations are accepted.

This was a seasonal art show with 73 watercolor painitings.We really enjoyed stopping here. It was free and I think it is almost always that way.

This place was formerly the local Carnegie library and is now an art center, museum, classroom, etc. They usually have exhibits of local artists that change every couple of months. A recent one figured a series of oils by a local artist of 51 prominent area resident's hands. Many were shown holding something used in their profession or hobby. This may not sound exciting but it was very well done. At other times there will art or music classes or shows. It is worth spending am hour or so to see what the current showing is. In February or March they will have a Mardi Gras show and party. Admission is usually free for the shows but a donation is requested.

So impressed with the exhibitions I've seen at the Carnegie, great for a city the size of Decatur.The staff was very helpful and friendly and the space is very well maintained.

The Carnegie is a beautiful, old building in downtown Decatur that features unique art exhibits throughout the year.
