Our first stop during our Athens visit was to the Visitors Center...it is located in a historic structure, a plus in of itself, with a cute little garden immediately adjacent...and very clean mens and women's bathrooms right outside...the person tending the desk was extremely pleasant and helpful, helping us locate the historic sites we hoped to visit, plus a great lunch site recommendation, and even looked up a store at which we could look at vacuums. They have a plethora of brochures to help plan touring not only in Athens, but in all the sites otherwise encompassing the Antebellum Trail, and even Atlanta!A great place to get oriented.Recommended highly.

Did you like the local tourism brochures you picked up in U.G. White's store? Well, this visitor's center is the "mother lode" for them, where they came from. If you're more dedicated to tourism, you'll want to come here and pick up additional brochures, and talk with some of the folks. This visitor center is located in what was once the city water works building. The old reservoir area out back has been uncovered, and turned into Athens' big spring park. You can see the Newby gas station museum from there. If you're looking for business networking, the Chamber of Commerce is right across the street from the visitor center.
