We came down for a special event and they had someone tell us about the church. She was wonderful!!! We then walked over to the museum and they had someone else there to talk about the museum. She was wonderful too.

This cathedral is an amazing architectural feat. The steeple reaches so high, it looks as if it is kissing Heaven. The stained glass within is spectacular. It is an awe-inspiring sight for Catholics, Protestants, such as myself, and even atheists who enjoy good architecture. Outside, there was an amazing oak, which was so huge, it looked like an entire kingdom of elves could live within. Maybe they do! Behind the cathedral, there is a graveyard filled with beautiful stone graves which are above ground and caringly manicured by relatives. It is refreshingly old-fashioned after seeing Forest Lawn and other such burial sites which attempt to hide the truth of their purpose. A truly lovely church.

This would be an interesting Roman Catholic church and graveyard all by itself but the gigantic Southern Oak on the property is a must-see item on a visit to Lafayette. Strange as it sounds we also enjoyed visiting the graveyard which features internments of individuals going back to the Civil War. Many well-recognized Southern family names are repeated frequently in the largely above-the-ground vaults. The church is also no slouch.

The beauty of this Cathedral can be seen in the stained glass, wood pews, paintings, expansive ceiling, and more. I visited during Lent and was inspired to attend service for the first time in many, many years. The cemetery contains Mouton's above ground grave as well as many others of interest. Lovely, peaceful historic site.

We came to visit the cemetery while in town on a family matter because a family member is fascinated with old graves. It turns out to be a historical church on a beautiful piece of property in "Acadiana".

We arrived to find the front door locked and a sign advising us to enter through the side door which was unlocked. It was a rainy and gray day outside so little light came in through the windows. With very little inside lighting turned on it was a little difficult to imagine the beauty of this historic cathedral. I took a soggy walk around the cemetery which would have been much more interesting on a sunny day. We'll try again next time through the area.

Cathedral is nice. Nice stain glass, huge pipe organ. In courtyard is huge oak tree. That alone is worth the visit.

It is a beautiful church but the acoustics made it difficult to hear the priest. Everyone was very friendly.

Take your camera! This is mouth dropping! An amazing specimen of a live oak tree. Walk around it, view the cemetery on one side of it then visit the church on another side of it.

Beautiful Christmas lighting display. Drove by during the Christmas Holidays and enjoyed the architectural beauty of the Cathedral and other buildings.

Beautiful church in the heart of Lafayette. This church has a lovely garden featuring a 400 year old live oak tree. A great place to take a picture.

my wife and I spent three days in Lafayette on the way to San Antonio. Did not know much about the area but wanted learn about Acadian culture, take a swamp tour etc. Visiting the Cathedral was actually an after thought but we are VERY glad we took the time. Beautiful architecture, ornate but not overwhelming and the grounds with the giant live oak are magnificent.!

This is a must see when visiting Lafayette, La. The church was built in 1821 on donated land in the area which is predominatly Roman Catholic. We were impressed with the large oak tree that is estimated to be over 450 years old. There is a museum and gift shop next door and the cemetery located behind the Church was alsomof interest.
