I'm in the casino business so I'm always looking at different casinos across the country. Paragon seems to have fallen in the category of "just good enough." The building is nice, they seem to have quite a few eateries. However, the staff on the day i was there just wasn't on point. They weren't angry or mean, just lifeless. The answers I received about my various questions were just kind of blah. No one seemed like they enjoyed their job. When I go to a casino i want to forget about MY issues...not worry about what's wrong with the staff that day.

They have new management that has cut almost everything, the staff has a bad attitude and the gambling, well let's just say when you walk in just throw it on the floor and walk out!! I'VE been going sense it opened and it's never been so BAD as it is now! They need to bring grand back and fire the hell out of the new management!!!!!! Save your money! Go anywhere else!!!!!!!

Although we only spent three hours here (too tired from travel to stay longer) we enjoyed the time. The place is very large and clean. Like most casinos has a strong smoke odor but I expect that. There is a small non-smoking area but it still has some smoke odor. We were there on Sat. afternoon and the room was often busy so access was limited. I was a little surprised that there were not many tables active. Also the craps table was not busy. I guess most people are now hooked on machines. I am a video poker player and I found a lot of machines to play on including a full pay Jacks machine. The lady at the comps card booth was very helpful and we had cards in about 5 minutes for the two of us.We did not try the food at any of the several places to eat.

My husband and I visited this casino on New Years Eve (for the day). It was the first time I had been back in 20 years (right after they opened). At that time I said that I wouldn't return, however, I received some comps in the mail several weeks later, 2 free nights, some play money on my card, as well as a food credit. I was just about to throw it away when I asked my husband if he'd like to go and spend a weekend. After all, the majority of it is free right?? So I booked it for February. We arrived on the 20th, checked in, and went into our "non smoking" room. The smell was aweful. You'd swear someone had just smoked a cigarette in there. Upon inspection, we noticed that some areas of the room had not been cleaned in quite some time. The bed (sheets) had hair on it, there was dust around the tv, floor in bathroom was sticky, and lets just say that the toilet has had better days. Buts it's free, right?? We go down to eat dinner and after trying the buffet on New years eve and disliked it, we opted for Roxys. The "smoking" and "non smoking" sections are a joke, but its free. We ordered. My husband had a mushroom burger, he said it was good. I ordered a chef salad. It was just ok. Pieces of ham and turkey too big and plate too small. Ended up with more on the table than in my stomach. I also ordered someonion strings. While the top portion was edible, the further i ate the worse it got. Most of it was not cooked, so I only ate about 1/4 of it. Service and cleanliness was definetly lacking. Next morning, woke up and I felt like I could cough up a lung. The smell of smoke was unreal. Their ventilation system (if there is one in place) needs serious upgrades. The doors to the rooms make this terrible slamming noise, so we could hear doors slamming alllllll night long. Not the best sleep. We decided to try the breakfast buffet, thinking that "how can you mess that up"?? Well they did. Eggs tasted like powder, the bacon tasted like pure salt, biscuits were not warm, etc... My hubby went to order real eggs. He placed the order and the girl was wiping down the counter and then wiped off the spatula with the same cloth...wth??? Really...Omg! I still can't believe that my husband didn't say anything to her (we come from a restaurant background and are very aware of contamination)....No more Buffets. Casino area is ok. Nothing to write home about. Was trying to find the nature trail, but was told that it was closed at that time. Well okWent to movie theatre concession to order a hot dog, and guess what? They were out. Really? Walked to another area that served sanwiches...nobody there to wait on me. So I left and walked to McDonalds.Supper time. Decided to try Cafe Paragon. We went down to order. There were about 20 people in line and waiting on food....Should have been an indication as to what we were about to endure. Got to the counter. Cashier totally ignored us and was carrying on a conversation with another employee. Some guy in a white coat was clipping chips to a rack. Completely unaware of his surroundings. Cashier needs more training and customer service skills to say the least. So we ordered and waited, and waited, and waited (we paid for this meal, not a freebie) So after about an hour we got our food and brought it up to the room. I will say that it was probably the best we had while staying there. I had the club sandwich and was definitely worth the price. Left early Sunday morning. Most likely won't ever go back unless they do something about the smoke. Oh, one last thing...they supposeldly charge $5.00 per day for wi fi. Cell phone reception is almost non existant in the hotel and casino.

This place has everything. I came on a trip for a group of 50 and they gave us $10 food vouchers and $25 free play. I don't gamble so I gave my free play away. For a small fee of course! :) They have an awesome movie theater with concessions to go along with it. Free wifi everywhere...that's always a plus! What I didn't like about Paragon was having to pay for the workout facility! $10. What a rip off. I figured since enough people put their money in those stupid machines, that should come along with the hotel stay! Nope! Also, the spa has ridiculous prices and there aren't too many TV channels to choose from!Although this is nice, it could be a lot better. I was told that it used to be WAY BETTER and they have been losing business. The best thing about this place are the hotel beds! Wow!!

The off-the-beaten-path casino was a fun place to gamble. The hotel has very nice rooms and it is affordable. In addition to the hotel and casino, there are several dining opportunities inside the casino.

I did not have high expectations so I wasn't disappointed. The hotel entrance was great. I was pleased to see a definite Louisiana feel in the lobby area. Gators, turtles, and fish in the enclosed pond area gave a real "authentic" feel for those who think the state is only swamp. :) The layout was well-done with plenty of signage to direct one to where one wanted to land... shopping, casino, spa. The spa and shopping areas were fine. The casino was, unfortunately, not as well ventilated as it should be with smoking allowed. I smoked for 25 years and have been quit for 18 years. I am not ultra-sensitive to smoke but it was pretty heavy when we entered the casino. That diminished the experience considerably. The spa was lovely but the experience was not as good as other places I have been. Not quite as much attention during the wait time and pretty high pricing for providers with less experience than would be good. (My massage was pleasant but not stellar.) We ate at two restaurants (separate reviews) that were good. I probably would not go here again for the resort/casino experience.

Loved everything... anything you could want to do is under one roof. Gambling, food, shopping, movie, music, drinks, it's all there. Can't wait to go back!

Paragon has a little bit of everything.....good food, nice people, relaxed atmosphere, Music, casino, golfing, and a spa. What else could you ask for? The rooms are spacious and not costly. The staff is wonderful! You ask and they bend over backwards to accommodate you. Take a trip!

Stayed mid July for one night here and can only rate Paragon as poor.We arrived mid afternoon and used the valet to park the car which was fine. I am a heavy smoker so I am normally not sensitive to smoke smell. But when I opened the door to enter the casino I was about knocked over by the smell of stale cigarette smoke. I don't see how a non-smoker could tolerate it.We made our way to the check in area and there was not a line so we were checked in promptly. The room assigned was nothing out of the ordinary. I have stayed in nicer places but, then again, I have stayed in much worse. Room is best described as adequate.Back to the casino, we played some slots and table games didn't win but the losses were small and tolerable. About 10 PM Friday night the Marksville "locals" showed up and took over the place. Not that they caused me any trouble, but I just couldn't feel comfortable. They knew the dealers and the dealers knew them all too well. Don't know what was happening. Just a bad vibe I got as I went from breaking even/small losses at the blackjack table to almost losing every hand.As with most casinos I have visited, drink service at the slots was spotty and slow while drink service at the tables was average. We ate at two of the restaurants. Big Daddy E's and Roxy's. I had fried shrimp at Big Daddy E's and a late night burger to take to the room from Roxy's. Neither of which are worthy of bragging about here.Check out the next morning was fast and efficient. Went to Valet stand to get car and no one was there. Notified front desk that valet station was unattended. About 30 minutes later someone showed up brought the car around and we finally were able to leave.I am glad I went to Paragon. It can be fun to experience new places and new places to visit are usually fun. Not so much with this place, though. I have no intention of ever returning.

I've stayed here several times in recent years and it seems to be deteriorating each time. Room rates during the week reasonable but restaurants are high and good very mediocre and service bad in the diner. Thought I booked nonsmoking room online but when I checked in they supposedly put me in nonsmoking. But when the strong smoke smell and ashtray on the room was discovered the front desk insisted it's a nonsmoking. Yeah right. Also buffet was $17 and nothing to write home about for so moch $. Won't be back.

Plenty of slots for everyone, food is good throughout. I liked the daiquiri machines bar. Hotel was comfortable, beds are nice, the room was showing a little wear but overall a great stay.

We came in on Friday afternoon and stayed at the RV park. Grounds are well kept and very clean. Shuttle runs often and picked us up and dropped us back off right at our spot. We enjoyed the Casino. Nice selection of penny and nickel slots, which are my favorite. It was smokey but not as bad as some other casinos. We saw the Midtown Men in concert. Burgers and fries in Roxy's were delicious and reasonably priced. We had a nice weekend and will definitely do this again.

I think it should have a smoking section or better ventilation. Various machines and tables. Something for everyone.
