The pork sliders were delicious and the price just right. We would have liked to know that the kitchen closed at 2:00 however. We spent time in the museum at the Cultural Center and went back to the Capitol for lunch between 1:30 and 2:00. We had to hurry to be able to grab a sandwich thinking they didn't close until later in the evening when the Legislature is in session.

This capitol building is a beautiful structure, but our visit was disappointing. We had checked the web before we went and wanted to take one of the tours offered throughout the day. When we got there, we were informed there were no tours that day because it was Nurses Day at the capitol and it was too noisy to give tours. This should have been posted on the web. We were able to walk around and see things, but a tour was what we wanted.

If you have never been in a capitol building you will enjoy it. If you have seen others I would skip it.

A magnificent 1930's structure with a commanding setting along the banks of the Kanawha River in Charleston, WV. A must see if you are in the area. One of the most impressive capitols in the US.

I have been to the Capitol building numerous times. Everytime I see it, it just gets more and more beautiful!!

Situated on the banks of the Great Kananwha River there is not a more gracious place to spend a few hours to unwind from your day of travel.

The most positive aspect of my visit to the West Virginia State Capitol is that most of the "attractions" are accessible. In my opinion, the main things to see are (1) the rotunda and inner dome; (2) the Senate chamber; (3) the House chamber and (4) the Supreme Court chamber. The Governor's Reception Room is also available. All of these rooms were open during my visit.Like most State Capitols, free guided tours are offered throughout the day. Or, you can take a self-guided tour if you prefer. The Capitol hours are extensive.Visitor parking is available on the Capitol grounds in metered parking spaces which accept coins (no credit cards). I brought plenty of quarters--and a quarter will buy you 30 minutes. You can park for up to four hours. While at the State Capitol, it's worth visiting the West Virginia Veterans Memorial (on the grounds) as well as the West Virginia State Museum. The museum is very well done. Amazingly, there is no entrance fee for the museum.

I work in the capitol complex so I see the outside of the capitol everyday. I have been on tours with my children's classes and I always learn something new. The chandelier in the center rotunda is amazing, the ceiling detail in the upper halls has an interesting history. Worth visiting if you are in the area and can get a guided tour.

Highly regarded for its beauty, the building is great to enter for a walking tour. Staff is extremely friendly

Pretty capital, interesting statues, hidden gardens - plus it was fall, so gorgeous landscapes. Definitely worth visiting. Take 50 cents for parking, park right at the capitol!

This was my birthday trip several years ago. I love the grandeur of government building especially older ones. It always amazes me at the quality of workmanship achieve without the technology of today's building trade. I would like to go back with camera and tripod in tow. Another grand old building.

We took our students to tour the WV State Capitol last week. Many of them had never been there. It was an excellent tour. We got to see the House and Senate chambers and the governor's reception room. Our guides, Maryann and Grace, were quite knowledgeable, giving us many architectural, cultural, and historical facts and anecdotes. The building itself is beautiful. I highly recommend a visit to thus WV treasure.

During a weekend trip for a concert my husband, two friends, and myself ventured to see what we could find in Charleston. Along with the state museum, you must not miss the capital. Amazing self guided walk through this gorgeous historic building is well worth it. WV should be proud.

The West Virginia capitol building is beautifully striking, especially when the sun shines on the gold dome. Positioned in a wonderful setting along the river in Charleston, I consider it one of the most beautiful state capitol buildings in the country.
