Century+ old goodness abounds. Many well maintained or lovingly restored with gardens, landscape accents, stained glass and the like.Walk the long block of Lee street and go over and back Virginia Street, or vice-versa, and note all the house styles. End your journey with a snack or meal at Tricky Fish or Bluegrass Kitchen, then walk off your meal with a stroll of the state capitol grounds. Be sure to bring some peanuts to feed the squirrels your price of "admission."

There's Taste of India (which features an excellent lunch buffet for around $10), Bluegrass Kitchen (features a variety of homemade fresh cuisine - although they often run out of menu items), Tricky Fish (urban "beach bar"), and more. There's even a record shop that has actual phonograph records. There are new attractions coming to this area all the time.

old matronly homes coupled with 100 year old apartment houses, this is a historic district not to be missed. the apartment houses are small, many with sleeping porches, windows in the bathroom and kitchens, i saw an old clothing line from the second story house, as revolvi9ng wheel just liked my grandmother's. this is not a disney reproduction, it is realistic look at life in the early part of the 20th century.

We always enjoy looking at the architecture of cities we pass through, and Charleston is no exception. The downtown houses look like they were lovely in their hey-day. Some have been lovingly restored, and some are rundown. Thankfully, some are in the process of becoming what they once were. I'm sure they are fantastic to look at inside. We took a driving tour, but warmer weather would bring a delightful walking tour in this neighborhood to view the history here. Kudos to those who are making an effort to bring that Charleston history back to its beauty.

Drove the district. Found many homes in the district were beautiful but some were not so well kept. I suspect flooding has taken a toll on some of the older buildings over the years. Worth the drive but really didn't find the wow factor I have found in other historic districts.

I love walking through this area. Beautiful houses and shady walkways. Come the Saturday before Mother's Day for the Big East End Yard Sale

Charleston's historical district is like no other...beautiful tree lined streets with gorgeous, well maintained older brick homes in Victorian and Craftsman styles. I especially loved how the historic district is right off the downtown area of the city...very convenient!

The East End Historical District is a great place for an evening stroll. I love the older homes and wonder about the families who have occupied them over the years.
