This was our 5th trip with New & Gauley. We love this company. We chose to do the Gauley Reverse this year for our sibling trip. Our guide was Brian and he gave us the ride we wanted 2 days in a row. We are a little adventuresome and want more challenge in our river run. Brian supplied it. We have never been disappointed by any of our guides. We had a dinner and breakfast included with our trip. Stephanie did a great job of providing us with warm and tasty meals, even when our trip returned later than expected. We are on our way home and already planning an Upper Wildside trip for next year.

my son and I drove 10.5 hrs from Chicago on the weekend of October 4/5 to go rafting with this company. We had just found it on the internet and read the trip advisor reviews. We were not disappointed! We spent about $700 for a great 2 day vacation for 2. We stayed 2 nights at the nearby Quality Inn and it was a good deal (they have dryers for wet rafting clothes). At the outfitters we took the Gauley reverse. Be sure to rent the wetsuits bec it is cold! It's worth $25. The staff is very knowledgable and nice. Many have been there a long time. If you have time try to eat in their dining hall bec the food is good and you can talk to others. The river guides are good (ours was Kyle and he was great!) people come from all over the world to do this and this is the best company.

Best time ever on water! Day one started off doing the Lower Gauley! Great ride, great guide (Buddy) and met a great group of rafters! But it only got better! Day two was on the Upper Gauley! Class five rapids! Had the same boat crew and lucky enough to get Buddy again! The rush is amazing! The thrill incomparable! Looking forward to doing this again next year! Thanks to all the guides and staff at NRA. You guys Rock!

This was my husband and I's second time rafting the upper Gauley trip. Today our guide was Rick O'shea. If you're looking for an amazing rafting trip with a guide that has 20+ years experience, this is your guy! Although the campground is small it still has a lot to offer and is close to stores and restaurants if you want to go outside the campground. Next year we will be back to raft with New and Gauley river adventures!!

We did the Upper Gauley with Patrick America as our guide. He was flat out awesome and hilarious, and let us take some more adventures lines/routes He also gave us plenty of hell, but it was needed to keep us in line. This river is no joke and everyone depends on one another. It was probably the most fun 5+ adrenaline packed hours I've ever experienced, and it's an awesome group activity. The water is going to be frigid (around 50 degrees) regardless of air temp, so be prepared. I was one of the lucky one's that got dumped, and it only made it more exciting. They are the only guide-owned non-corporate outfitter and they match competitor coupons, so it's a no brainer to go with NGRA. Plus, you can request your guide (can't go wrong with Patrick).

Our guide was Patrick (Captain America). He was very knowledgeable and made it a great trip. Can't wait to go back again!! Highly recommend New & Gauley River Adventures!

Early in September, my sister and I took a trip down the Lower New River with Nollie as our guide. She was fabulous and so was the trip! With just the 2 of us, Nollie showed us a great time with wonderful scenery, interesting history and just the right amount of excitement.

My friend and I made a last minute trip to the New River Gorge last weekend. We showed up at New & Gauley River Adventures without a reservation just to see if we could get on a trip down the river. We lucked out, and they had a trip that was about 10 minutes from leaving! What an awesome experience! We were put into a smaller raft "Wild-Side" with Tony as our guide, and we could not have had a better experience!! I've been on other rivers with class 4 & 5 rapids, including the Chattooga River in Georgia, and this trip beats them all by far. Especially because of Tony. Since there were only two of us on our raft (plus Tony) it made the trip extra special. Tony took us on the more "fun and exciting" rapids on the New River, and we surfed as many waves as we could. Thanks Tony for making this a memorable trip! I would highly recommend New & Gauley River Adventures to anyone. They are fun, helpful, and family friendly!!

We went with Jim and Tony with 2 rafts. Jim was our guide. He showed us a good time and made it as exciting as possible without any of us falling out of the raft. The lunch was wonderful and view priceless. Have been down the New River before and always have had a great time. You must give it a try. If you want more adventure try the Gauley. We didn't have the nerve this time. lol

Chris was the best guide! Such an amazing experience! Knowledgable and friendly staff, couldn't have asked for more. I wouldn't go anywhere else. This was our first time but we are already planning for next gualey season!

I had family biz to attend to in June in Ohio. The gentleman taking care of the family estate asked what I was going to do while I was there, and suggested a drive a few more hours east of him to West Virginia and go rafting on the New River. Am I glad I did it instead of a float trip outside Cincy!I ultimately chose New and Gauley River adventures, as they seemed to be less commercial, which to me translates into a more personal, less autopilot experience. This was my third rafting trip (first out east), and my first wearing a helmet, that's how wild the river was to be. This was my friends (lady, age 78!, and guide, age 60) first river trip. Boy, were they in for a surprise! I've attached a picture. The lady in pink is the 78 year old. She's an adventurous gal, former international traveler and stewardess, but admittedly, I didn't tell her how wild the water was going to be. She handled it and is looking forward to going again. Super cool guides. I've attached a picture from the trip. If you get the guy with the black helmet and glasses, consider yourselves fortunate. Hilarious homespun humor. Another guide was on the trip, a total daredevil. He kept diving into the water and swimming alongside and through the rapids. Whoo-hoo!!I gave an excellent rating but I should mention a couple downsides. Ticks, ticks and more ticks. Not the fault of the company, but you should know if you live in a relatively tick-free place, that they practically rain down on you from the trees onto the river, and you. Slightly gross, but you'll be OKThe logistics of getting to the N&G office was a bit tricky, and their stairs could use something gritty like treads, so be cautious going down. Parking was another adventure. Our bus driver took us down a windy back road to the river because we were joining a group that wasn't expected for awhile (the group we were supposed to go with cancelled), and so we had some extra time on our hands. Had we known, we'd have gone for lunch first, but thankfully the bus driver had some granola bars on board, as I was starving by the time we got on the boat. Not the operators fault, just one of those things that happen, but you should plan for unexpected things like a later start, and bring some munchies along. I didn't, but it all turned out.The trip is just beautiful, about 2 hours or so long. The rapids are so wild, that if you've ever gone on a raft trip without a helmet, you will need a helmet for this one (provided of course). We want to do this trip again, and are mulling an autumn trip sometime, as the color will be just gorgeous. We'll definitely use this company again. My friends tipped the guys $20 each, so that gives an idea of how much we were happy with the trip. I don't mind the corporate thing in some instances, but I was glad to go with the little guy in this instance. It was just so much more personal feeling.

My husband and I really appreciated the small-business feel of this organization. We've been rafting several times in other places, but this group of guides really treated us like we were worth getting to know, rather than just a bunch of thrill-seekers looking for a wild ride. Everything ran quite smoothly; well-handled. Even a video showing shortly after our trip, so we could see what we had done! Our guide Tony worked great with the family (2 kids) also in our raft, giving them some great thrills along the way. Very personable, even though he wasn't feeling his best that day. A thrilling ride down the lower New River, this was our first time on class V rapids. Tony kept us steered right into the best lines to get the most out of each rapid. We had a blast, and would love to come back and do it again. The only down side is the company that partners with them to process the photos of the trip -- they only print out 8x10s, which are VERY expensive, but we shelled out to get a CD of all the photos from our raft. Almost as much as paying for another rafter! But then, I am glad to have the photos, so the cost was acceptable to us.
