My brother and I stayed at Apgar Village and after checking in we decided to take a hike around the left side of Lake McDonald. Our hotel was at the bottom end of Lake McDonald and looking North up the lake was simply awesome. We drove a few miles around the lake to the left and parked in a turn-off. We hiked along a trail that went along the left side of the lake for about 3 miles. The trail kept to the side about 100-150 feet above the lake and the view was great. The trail was fairly level and woods were all around, but every so often you would come to a ridge and the trees were not in the way then and you could look across the lake and up the lake to the left to the mountains which were pretty spectacular. It ended being a nice, leisurely hike and we were totally alone, no other people on the trail and so it was easy to hear birds and small animals moving around near us. A very nice start to 8 days in Glacier National Park.

After staying at Apgar, we started out our first day in the park by stopping here. There are all kinds of information and orientation. We met Ranger Doug, one of the rangers with tons of personality who really gave us a great beginning impression of Glacier. The parking lot was quite crowded (even though rangers said it had quieted down at the end of August!). This stop really helped get us acclimated and gave a great overall picture of what we wanted to do in the days we were at Glacier.

All the Rangers were super helpful and full of information on how to best spend your time in the park. They will supply you with maps, current weather conditions to go hiking or just driving around. They have lots of usefull items and souvenirs you can purchase. The best part was the boat launch inside the town. The view is spectacular looking straight out from the dock, I promise you'll get some great photos.

Cute little town. Picnic area and great shops. They were very helpful. I imagine during hi-season parking can be an issue. Small store have firewood and kindling for sale. Only place that sold kindling during my entire 23 day trip.

We happened on Apgar as we were heading back from Glacier Park to Missoula. It is off the highway and truly beautiful, right on the shore of the lake. The town has shops, restaurants and other attractions. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

We stopped in this little village before heading to some trails. There are a few restaurants and shops. We had lunch, rented some bear spray and picked up some soueveneirs. The village borders Lake MacDonald and has stunning views.

The information center is an excellent option to get information for the park! There is someone there to answer questions and lots of books and other literature. The shuttle stop is there, too. Be sure to visit agar village while you are there. It is a quaint little area with a beautiful view of lake McDonald!

The new location of the Apgar Visitor Center is located at the t-intersection approximately one mile north of the West Entrance Station on the Going-to-the-Sun Road. The original visitor center at Apgar Village is closed but the restrooms are still open. The new visitor center fits well within its surroundings. It is unfortunate that the space housing the ranger, visitor information services, and retail sales has an awful echo when full of people and gets real loud with more than just a few people inside. It is a bit of a distraction/annoyance. Fortunately, most of the interpretive displays are outside. The new Apgar Visitor Center is a great place to start your visit of Glacier National Park from the west side

This was our first stop in the park just after going through the West Entrance to Glacier National Park. Apgar Village sits at the southern edge of Lake McDonald. There are a few places to stay here including The Village Inn, if you wish to make it your base during your stay. It is so picturesque and peaceful here! You could easily spend hours lakeside watching the goings-on or doing nothing at all. It's in the middle of nowhere but you also feel like you're in abit of civilization. There’s a large Eddie’s Café & Gifts store here where you can get everything from Smoothies to Wine. There are also clean public restrooms and a large visitor center which is fully stocked with tons of souvenirs. Lots of information is available on the Park here and you can get GNP dvd's and books at this stop.It was very crowded on the day we visited. It’s clearly a popular place to stretch your legs or stock up on supplies before tackling the Going-to-the-Sun road.Had we had days at our leisure, we would have loved to stay here for 2 days to take in the fresh air, the scenery and to swim in that crystal clear lake!

We started our trip to Glacier NP with a visit to the Visitor Center, The staff is extremely helpful and patiently answers hundreds of questions from tourists. We ended our day trip back at Apgar Village by sipping fresh huckleberry iced tea while sitting on a bench by beautiful Lake McDonald.

I was in this visitor center both in August and October and neither time were the park rangers very friendly or very helpful. The rangers at St.Marys entrance were much nicer and much more helpful in finding hikes that we could do that day. And it has the same info.

A very informative centre and lots of huckleberry outlets in and around it. Huckleberry everything! Near the lake with wonderful views and the red jammer buses create a lovely scene.

Even if this not your first visit to Glacier you should stop in here before you head out. Lots of friendly information available free of charge, a great topographical map to get the big picture of the park, and don't forget to get your National Park Passport Stamp while you're there!

The ranger had telescopes set up for star gazing. He was very helpful in locating stars. It was nice to see the night sky and all it had to offer.

A must to stop in and get the down low on all the things to do and see in the park. They provide free maps and recommend hikes based on your abilities and preferences.
