Ask for the "walk box" at the YMCA counter -- 6.1 mile walk is a great way to get a feeling for the downtown... We enjoyed it on a chilly/cold in the shade December day... Lots of empty buildings and limited eating locations, however...

Don't go to Frankfort Ave. It's a waste of time. Most places are closed down. And the one's that are open don't have much.

I am a local and take out of town guys to the museum. Always a hit. The way the museum walks you from the first firearm to modern day is spectacular.

Maybe Bardstown Road is your kind of strip; well Frankfort Avenue is just as lively at 11:00 pm as Bardstown Road any night of the week. Do yourself a favor and check out some the little beer joints and eateries here too! Parking on side streets is safe, love this end of Louisville!

This place sparkles! It is just amazing what little shops and restaurants have sprung up in this area, each one unique. From bookstores, to hair salons and arts and crafts, this is a very special area of town.

You can walk and pick and choose any cuisine and price range, or Trolley Hop it ! You can choose your atmosphere and type of food, and Loud or romantic and quiet. I am real impressed with what Frankfort Avenue has to offer ! You can't miss this! Walk shop and est and enjoy surroundings or just observe!

You won't want to miss dining at least one meal along Frankfort Avenue! Google all the great restaurants, dessert and coffee spots, and stroll. Whether along the sidewalk or the water company reservoir mayors-mile track. It's old, historic, filled with shop, restaurants and culture.

Louisville is an interesting city with many historic neighborhoods. Frankfort Ave. is quiet, filled with local stores, and an interesting area to explore. If you like architecture, it is fun to look at the buildings and homes. There are shade trees, benches, and outdoor cafes. That is, local food stops with places where you can sit out, eat, and enjoy people watching. The shop keepers are eager to share information and respond to questions. They seem to appreciate your business. Many of the eateries open for lunch and dinner. Thus it is best to visit after 10:30.

We had 45 min to fill before meeting friends for dinner -- and we were out-of-towners in search of caffeine. Had heard of the rejuvenation of Frankfort Ave so we headed there from NuLu area (loved it). Didn't have time to really explore but a quick drive up and down the street left us thinking that we have to come back! We happened to find Vint, and loved it. Cafe au lait and latte were delicious, and just what we needed for a pick-me-up. Quaint atmosphere with good business going at 4pm-5pm.....plenty of "regulars", which always says a lot. We can't wait to explore the rest of the avenue! Looks like many restaurants to try!

After reading reviews of Historic Frankfort Avenue I was super excited and planned half a day to spend there. However I was very disappointed when I arrived. Everything was so spread out. We walked for a while but didn't find any cute shops; I was really hoping for a cool piece of art to take home to remember our Louisville trip. We drove further down towards the city, but it was much of the same. The bars/restaurants didn't seem special or interesting. We did find somewhere to eat, but I wasn't impressed.

A Coffee shop (Heine Brothers), independent book store (Carmichaels), wine shop, consignment stores, Blue Dig bakery, and a variety of other small shops make strolling Frankfort Avenue on a sunny day a very pleasant outing. There also plenty of wonderful restaurants nearby. It is fun to walk around this area and make new discoveries. A Louisville favorite.

Nice stretch of local businesses. South Bayley Boutique and Crescent Hill Trading Post are our favorites. Nearby Heine Bros Coffee offers a respite from shopping. There is a Friday Night Trolley Hop once a month plus other events. Plenty of local restaurants and a good selection of sweets at The Comfy Cow and Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen.

There are so many cool little shops and places to eat on Frankfort that I think you could go for a moth straight and not get to them all. very cool area

My friends and I enjoyed shopping in the different shops and were dropped off by taxi at the Pie Kitchen. We walked all the way down to Carmichaels's book store and back past the pie kitchen to Cafe Classico. We were dropped off around 11:00am and our taxi picked us up about 5:00pm. We were given suggestions for many restaurants, but we did not realize they did not open until 4:30pm - 5:00pm. We really enjoyed the book store, Lexie's, the fair trade store, the Pie Kitchen and Cafe Classico. Would love to return, but will bring our car next time. Our feet were killing us by the end of the day!!
