We rented a pontoon boat and took out on Laurel Lake for the day. It was a great boat with lots of space. The water in the lake was beautiful will do it again.

Sad to say when we asked the staff about the fishing after we rented a pontoon boat and was getting ready to launch "how's the fishing?" We were told it is a hard lake to fish. We had fun anyways, but was hoping for encouraging words. The water was like bath water temperature though.

As others have said, water is crystal clear, and this lake is simply not as crowded as most. My favorite place to camp by far, Holly Bay Campground is where we usually stay. The sites on the G loop are pretty private, and not far from the water at all.

We went to Laurel River Lake this summer. A group of us rented a pontoon from Holly Bay Marina on a Sunday and had the lake completely to ourselves. This lake is in the Daniel Boone National Forest; maybe this is why it is so secluded or maybe because so close to Lake Cumberland. Anyway, it is so peaceful. The water is crystal clear that you can see forever into it. It was so warm. We tubes and kneeboarded without problems. Explored the dam. We saw a heron. Did I mention again how beautiful the water was!
