The food is mediocre at best and way over priced, but the people there are nice. I wouldn't recommend any of their steaks. They are tough to eat.

I have fond memories of the club from way back when they use to have the state beauty pageants there. I know it was totally awesome, i am not sure if they have remodeled any but it was starting to show a little wear but still a great place

I love the Paintsville Country Club. I played in the Paintsville Invitational tournament back in late 1940's and early 1950's. When I first played there it was 9 holes and then they built the holes on the other side of the Big Sandy River. In those days Paul B. Hall was such a nice person and had the influence to get some of the best golfers in the state of Kentucky and West Virginia to come to Paintsville and play in the tournament. This was when the Paintsville Invitational was a 3 day tournament, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Around 120 people would qualify and the low 16 made up the Championship Flight and next 8 in 2nd. Fight, next 8 3rd. fight and so on. Saturday would start match play.People like John Y. Brown Jr., who was about as good as Gay Brewer Jr., won the tournament at least 2 times. Paul B. Hall had many connections and he could get good golfers and others to come and play in his tournament.I am from Hazard, Ky. and and in 1949 or 1950 we had a 3 way matches, Paintsville, Hazard and Spring Valley Country Club in Huntington, West Virginia. I played as the no.1 man from Hazard and Arthur Meeks [Goof Meeks] played no.1 for Paintsville, and I don't recall the no. 1 from Huntington. I have great memories from those days. The Paintsville Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in eastern Kentucky. It is an 18-hole course with the front side consisting of hills and hollows and the back side being flat with water on most of the holes. The most interesting holes are numbers ten and seventeen. On each of these holes you have to drive your ball across The Big Sandy River. You then must cross a rustic swinging bridge to play holes number 10 through sixteen before crossing back to finish on seventeen and eighteen. The course is open to the public but tee times are required during the busy season. If you have never played this course you should definitely fit the time into your schedule! They host an Invitational Tournament every year around the second or third week in June for Pros and amateurs. THIS COURSE IS A MUST SEE!
