If you can get to Ellis on a day with reasonably good weather and get a picnic table by the track you are in for a good day at the races. It is less crowded over there and you can see everything up close. Food and drink prices are a little high but if you go on Sunday's you can catch a good deal with the $1 hog dogs, drinks, and beer. Good luck hiking from your parking spot if you don't get there early though.

Large family group met at the track Clubhouse for the day and the buffet. Would not recommend the buffet, as food was not terrific, with very tough pork, dry salmon, and canned vegetables. Menu ordering was better. While track admission is free, there is a $14 minimum per person for a Clubhouse table, but that can be met with food and drinks, so no problem meeting the minimum. Overall a nice track for a day at the races.

Ellis Park is a long time attraction in western Kentucky, Live racing is held from the first of July until Labor Day in September. Live races are on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with holidays added. Admission is free. The Sky Theater requires a ticket and food/drink minimum (check their web site) . There is an air conditioned clubhouse, a covered grandstand, a covered pavilion and outdoor seating. Fridays usually feature live music after the races with a Bierstube, Saturdays sometimes have activities between races such as the Wiener Dog, Zebra or Ostrich races. The horses running are often inexperienced or non-winners, which makes betting a real gamble. All in all, a day at the Ellis Park races in summer is a fun way to spend a day for the whole family.g

It was a beautiful sunny Saturday July 5th, we decided to make the two hour drive from the Knobs. We had a wonderful fun filled afternoon. The time between the races went very quick, it was nice to be able to bet races at other tracks and watch our horses on the screen.

If you don't want to wait in extremely long lines then you better stay away on Sundays (dollar days). Waited 25 minutes for drink and hotdog. When we got back to our seats the hotdog wasn't even cooked.

Love Ellis Park! Everyone is friendly and extremely helpful! Need new betting machines because they are out of date

The new owner has ruined a local legendary attraction. The quality of everything is gone, including the dirt the horses run on.No longer can you hang out in the clubhouse unless you are sitting down to dine. And if you are slumming it to bet a few races, forget getting a hot dog, they even took the krout away.

Love to go to the Sky Theatre and sit by the window. Good buffet, inexpensive drinks. $1 Sundays for beer and hot dogs. Casino has lots of fun additional games after the races.

We stopped by Ellis Park on a Sunday afternoon. Sundays are Dollar Day, and the place was mobbed. This is both good and bad. Good because it was nice to see so many people enjoying a day at the races. Less good because there were lines everywhere.

Enjoyed an uncrowded and beautiful day at Ellis Park. Public areas were clean. Different types of food for most tastes. An affordable afternoon for something different. Of course at two dollars a race the food and drink is where the expense is for me.

Great place to get up-close to horses and the track. An older venue, and not fancy, but not crowded either. Food and beverages are not too terribly expensive. They race Friday, Saturday and Sunday from mid-summer to Labor day. Seating along the fence with picnic tables make it great for families with little kids...they can run with the horses!

Great place to come watch the horses and hope you pick the winners. Very nice facility, place for smokers and non-smokers.

I've been going here since I was about 4 years old. My grandfather used to take me and I have a lot of memories. He still goes, but not as often, so I try to make it out as much as I can (I live in Dubai now so it's rare). Cheap food, beer, and open air. Don't expect Churchill's environment, this is definitely a local spot where you can actually talk to the jockeys, trainers, and staff. Great place!

You can take the whole family and have fun. On Sundays $1 beer and hot dogs. Very inexpensive fun. You can bet as little as $2 per race. Speical events include camel and dachsund races.
