Our guide was very nice and very informative on the tour. Really close to our hotel across the street.

Don't miss a tour of Onyx Cave. It's part of Mammoth Cave National Park but it is NOT a part of the Mammoth Cave itself. The Park Service runs tours to this cave. Plan your visit so you can take one. Not to be missed!

If you don't have a lantern, you don't see as much. Otherwise great. Crickets, salamanders, gypsum glittering caves...

We chose this cave tour because it stated it was less strenuous and we had a senior citizen in our group. Needless to say there is appx 60 steps and though that is not many they were to steep for him to take and he only did a small part of the tour. The cave is very small in nature and not much to see. Our guide was very informative and knowledgeable.

This is a sad little cave. The ticket price is only $7.95 and I feel that is just about all this tour is worth. The gift shop contains some neat items, but the cave is really not a great cave. Parts of the tour involve just walking next to the cave and looking down into some openings where you can see rocks and formations. When you are in a cave the temperature is usually a very nice 65 degrees, but since most of this tour you are just "near" a cave it can be very hot if it's a hot day. Near the end of this very short tour you get to walk down several steps and walk down a short pathway of cave before you walk up several steps and walk out of the cave and back to the "walking next to the cave" area. Our tour guide was very informative about the history of the area and about caves and science in general. He made the tour worth every penny. If you want to see a beautiful cave visit Cub Run Cave in Cub Run, KY, Diamond Caverns in Park City or Mammoth Cave. These three all offer real cave tours through a cave, not just walking near a cave.

Let me start by saying I've been to Mammoth Cave several times and I thought that was the end-all, be-all of cave exploration. WRONG! We chose this cave when the Mammoth tour times didn't work for our short visit to Cave City (obviously I checked the Trip Advisor ratings first). Wow. Our tour guide was SO informative, friendly and obviously well-versed in all things cave-related. The cave itself is so cool; however, I'm not going to lie: I chickened out halfway through and went back up before the tour was finished. Just so you're aware, this is a vertical cave - not a horizontal cave like Mammoth and others. There are several TIGHT spaces (and I'm a slim woman) and steep stairs. Carrying a toddler made me nervous, mainly because I was afraid she'd wiggle and I'd drop her (this is mainly me being a nervous ninny, not an issue of safety on the part of Onyx Cave). When I voiced my fears, our guide was SO super cool about it. Without making me feel stupid, she told me it was no sweat to go back up and hang out in the gift shop until the tour was finished. That wouldn't happen anywhere else. The other guy running the gift shop (who also gives tours) was really pleasant and we had a fascinating conversation about the history of both Onyx Cave and several of the other caves in the surrounding area while I waited for the rest of the tour to come back. You can tell that these people are really passionate about spelunking and they know their stuff. Our tour took place on a Friday and there were only three other people with us. It takes about 30 - 45 minutes and it's well worth the small admission fee. It is directly across from Dinosaur World (see my review on that one). The parking lot/entrance is up a steep hill and it's small - blink and you'll miss it. This is really one you have to experience (if you're not claustrophobic/afraid of heights).

The tour guide was so obviously fascinated by caves that it showed and got us excited. It was a small group of us so we could take our time and though not a long tour at all, wonderful for younger ones and she allowed us to use flash photography so our pics came out nice!

This was a side-trip as we had another Mammoth Cave trip later in the day. This was a nice tour, just over 30 minutes, and was well done by Missy who was our tour guide. She took her time and showed the many intricacies of this unique cave. Missy shared alot of her knowledge and cave experience. This is a must see for any that want a good short cave trip.

This was a nice short tour for kids who don't want to spend hours in a cave, You get to wear a helmet or take a lantern or a flashlight. It's about a 30 min tour but the 3 7 and 9 yr old granddaughers loved it.

We were there this August. The cave is beautiful. Especially with small children, the 30 minute tour is perfect. Our tour guide was Ali. She was great, always smiling and she made it fun for both my kids. Def must see.

This was a great tour. The cave is beautiful! My tour guide, Missy, was very knowledgable and passionate about caves. I learned a lot of information about cave formations, rocks, and minerals that I can share with my class. The shop had beautiful and varied objects for sale. It was a great visit!

We stopped here because we thought a 2 hour cave tour was more than our family could handle. The cave is awesome, our tour guide was great! We got to see the caves but not spend entire day. We learned alot about all the formations too! It is the correct amount of stairs/walking(not too many). Our kids(14,12,and 8) loved it!

The cave is so beautiful, and has tons of formations. A lot smaller than other caves in the area and so easy to get around, but you do not miss out on anything. Our tour guide was very pretty and a short brunette with glasses. I believe her name was Alli. She was wonderful. Very intelligent and definitely knew what she was talking about. She was hilarious and the best tour guide we've ever had, as she was also very polite. Their rock shop was also awesome. Just an all around great place!

We were looking for something reasonably priced and fast to enjoy as a break on our road trip from Chicago to FL. This was well worth the time! Our three kids (14, 10, 8) were amazed at the cool formations, and I appreciated how the operators focus on preservation and respect for the natural structure. Our guide Missy was very knowledgeable and you could tell she has a passion for caves. My kids had lots of questions and all were answered patiently. We never felt rushed and took lots of pictures. If you are looking for an up-close experience in an intimate group setting be sure to stop! I don't think you will be disappointed!
