We absolutely love the Children's Museum. My 5-year old never turns down a trip there. They have wonderful hand-on activities and the staff is great with the kids. If you are in the area and you have kids, you should definitely check out this museum. We went last night for the First Friday and got in for $2! I made a recent blog post on our most recent visit.http://havebudgetwilltravel.blogspot.com/2015/03/childrens-museum-theatre-of-maine.html

This is the perfect place for parents, grandparents to take children on a cold Maine day. The activities are interactive and fun. My Grandson loved the fire engine and the climbing wall. Do arrive early because it becomes very crowded within the first hour.

My 9 month old son had the time of his life here! They have a location that is safe for the little ones to crawl around and play which he had a ball and must have played there for an hour. The rest of the museum was gauged for slightly older children but still worth the admission for the little kids.

We are members at the Children's Museum and Theatre in Portland, Maine. Whether you live around the area or are traveling in, the museum is a great place to spend a few hours. The ground floor has a theatre where they house puppet shows and theatre acts geared for kiddos of all ages, the first and second floors have a host of activities from shopping at WholeFoods, to Milking a Cow, a Science Center, a great playhouse made of wood for kinds to run around and climb in and a fire truck! The third floor has wood working, children around the world, a touch tank, and a fun water section. Don't forget to go to their website and see what they have going on - during the different seasons there is always fun activities and crafts. When it is raining, cold out, or the kiddos just want to get out for the afternoon this is a great spot to take them. We have children ranging from 6 - 11 years old and they all like going. (Though the museum even caters to younger crowds too!)

This is the most amazing place for children, everything they could possibly want to do and completely safe environment. My Great Granddaughter had the time of her life and from what I could see so did every other child there

I have took my children to several different children's museum. But for my children this place was the best! From morning to evening they provide very educational and fun programs everyday. My family and I had a great family time there!

I was a nanny for several years in Portland and the Children's Museum was a go to great time for my two boys. They were 8 and 9 years old at the time. This museum has age - appropriate and interactive exhibits for all ages...from dinosaurs to scientific cool experiments and nature phenomenons. Our favorite time was on school vacation...we purchased tickets (very reasonable) and saw a play put on by non- professional child actors...full house and a wonderful and enjoyable experience for all of us. When friends with children visit us in Portland, we head downtown to the Children's Museum. Always something new, interesting, and fun and the staff are super friendly and helpful.

This was just what our 16 month old son needed after 2.5 weeks travelling! Soooooo much fun. Lovely staff. Clean and full of activities! Each area is really engaging and there was a great little talk about turtles, which he managed to sit through! Lovely little water play area (bring spare clothes!). Really enjoyed it!

I have taken my children here twice, and they seem to have had a good time. This last time, however, our seven year old thought many if the exhibits were baby-ish. It is a fun place for children (IMO 6 and under to play for a couple of hours). Worth the reasonable price.

My daughter absolutely loved this place, it was hard getting her to leave. They have lots of fun activities and educational exhibits for children and parents to enjoy.

Great exhibits - we were there nearly 4 hours. Loved the fire engine, pirate ship and space shuttle - would definitely recommend

If you have very young children or special needs children environment may not be the best as lines can be long, and are kids never were able to get turns on some games. Very expensive for kids not really being able to take part and participate.

We went here this Tuesday.Admission was $9 which is pretty decent compared to a lot of other attractions in the New England area. The kids ran around and had fun which is the whole idea of a place like this. It's a great place to take younger kids for a few hours but I think kids older than eight may not enjoy it as much.

We were visiting the area and found this children's museum. It was in a cute historic building downtown. It had a lot of fun interactive areas for little ones. My son is 19 months old and loved running around to the play grocery store, auto shop, and barn. He also loved the water play area. Even the adults had fun playing with him. There were also climbing areas (like a playground). There was educational information posted in some of the play areas, but I would use the word "museum" loosely. It's more like a giant play area. Great for a rainy day. It's a pretty small building, but they creatively pack a lot into the space. I did find the admission cost for adults to be a little steep since it's really a kid play area. And you do pay full admission for kids over 18 months. Plus it's $5 to park in the lot behind the building. Overall, we spent about 1.5 hours there. It's a fun activity for kids, probably aged 5 and under if you need to burn off some energy.
