We have been to the Maine Military Museum twice...both times we thoroughly enjoyed it. Mr. Humiston started and manages the museum...he employs several Veterans who perform docent duties...they are all amazing and intelligent men...knowledgeable and can answer any questions...from the Civil War exhibits to the World Wars, the Korean War, the Gulf War, to the amazing Vietnam War exhibits (replica of a prisoner of war cell) to just about anything military related. This museum can bring you a wealth of knowledge regarding every war the United States has fought in...lots of military memorabilia...uniforms, medals, weapons, etc. This is a great experience. The museum survives on donations alone...there us no fee to enter, but any donation of any amount is most welcome. They even have a function room, which can be reserved for any event...birthdays, anniversaries, retirement parties, etc. You can also donate $50 for a brass plate to be installed on the wall in memory of any Veteran. We have plans to take our friends from NH here in the spring...he is retired Navy, my husband is a Vietnam Veteran as is my brother (who we have already brought to this fabulous patriotic museum). Plan a trip with your beloved Veteran...head to the Maine Military Museum in South Portland...tour this great facility...and be sure to thank a Veteran for their service.

I was there for the first time last weekend. It is wonderful there and the staff are so friendly and answer all your questions. This is a must do if you are in the area. Do not miss visiting the Museum.

The Maine Military Museum is a treasure trove of a collection. Curated by a caring engaging man, and populated with committed volunteers. A great collection. Spend time here, you will learn something.
