We got to try this place but we had the unfortunate timing of arriving at the same time as a small bus (I think they had 12 coming in). We were recommended to try here because I love Gruner (which I guess they were out of). My reason for the terrible review was because of the way the woman handled herself. Rather than ask us to wait or anything else, she immediately broke down and said "I don't do well under pressure." I work at a very busy winery on Seneca Lake, I looked around and thought, I hope that if the trail gets any bigger, they hire more or better staff because that is just the worst possible way to handle a couple coming in to taste. We legitimately came to taste and after that greeting, I turned to the woman and, as pleasantly as I could, said we would do us both a favor and go somewhere else because it was clear she didn't want us to taste and I'm not one to spend my money where it isn't wanted. They really need to figure out how to greet customers and to handle a "busy" time much better. As people who work in the industry, my boyfriend and I very respectful of servers and tip and purchase at every stop we go to. As someone who deals with large groups at the winery I work for, I have an acute knowledge of how tipping and purchasing comes from larger groups so I would say it was likely this winery's loss.

This was our 5th stop on our 10/10/14 Niagara wine tour. Unfortunately there was a tour in front of us and only one worker working so we had to wait quite a while. But she was very nice and apologetic and because we had to wait allowed us to sample as many wines as we wanted without charging us. We ended up buying two wines -- Chocolate Obsession (very tasting, the Chocolate flavor is not overpowering, they had another chocolate wine but we favored this one) and Vika Verzay which is a spiced wine designed to be served hot. We always buy Fredericksburg Christmas wine (also a hot spiced wine) to have on Christmas Eve but we will be having Vika Verzay this year!

Quite a statement I know, and with many of these wineries being new they have not quite made it to the old style production that an old winery has, but give it time and I believe many of these wineries, Victorianbourg included will be some of the best wines you can get. That said, Victorianbourg offered a wonderful selection of great tasting wines. As the name would indicate many or most of the wineries in this region will make wines you might expect from the Rhineland as they have very similar climates. Frost wines or Frozen wine is a real sweet treat at many of these that you don't find often elsewhere. This is a production winery so you don't get the fancy tasting rooms and haughty atmosphere. You get good wine made by craftsmen that want to make good wine. It is on the wine trail and can be busy from time to time. While I was there a group from Europe came through and purchased 5 cases by the time they were done. I came away with 4 Cabernet's, a Riesling for my wife and contact information so I can have them ship more later. This was not a wine tasting trip, but I was able to get a few wineries in, and this was one of the best.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Victorianbourg Wine Estate. The assistant wine maker Jim gave us a very personal tasting, his great energy contributed to the overall experience. The environment is rustic and relaxed. All wines are reasonably priced. To taste five wines it's three dollars with a large selection to choose from. Highly recommend taking the time to go if you're in the area!

We went to 5 "wineries" on the Niagara Wine Trail as part of our Travel Zoo promotional package with our stay at the Sheraton At The Falls June 28, 29.I've written lots of reviews, not many of which are negative. I always justify my ratings.Victorianbourg was our second stop.It was very small and very busy with a group of young 'hat ladies' in attendance. The old barn used as a tasting area smelled like an old barn. There was no real "bar" or even stools/chairs to sit on and enjoy your experience. It was like the petting zoo at Marineland: crowded mayhem. The staff were overwhelmed and scrambling to keep up.They rinsed your glass with WATER, before pouring you a new/different sample: a big no-no for wine tasting. This winery offered the smallest of all sample sizes. They offered delicious Oyster Crackers to cleanse your palate, even though they should have offered bland, plain "Carr's Table Water Crackers" instead. (But I love animal crackers anyway.)They offered you a long list of available varieties and wines to try, but 50% of them were simply struck off the list and unavailable. The 'wines' weren't more than fermented juice, they didn't smell like wine; most tasted the same: like vinegar. We liked their "Chocolate Obsession" that was so heavily dosed with a strawberry-chocolate flavour enough that we bought a bottle for a treat. It was unnerving for me to be dumping unfinished 'wine' (less than 1 oz to start with mind you!) into a 'dumping crock.'I learned that a lot of the wineries on this tour were new, with young vines.I would describe these wineries as small 'Mom and Pop' operations; just big enough to engage in public tastings and bottling, but no where big enough to make a product I would like to have served to me, even at a 3.5 Star restaurant. We had to drive ourselves around this tour.It was not worth the hassle and fees to book a "limo" to drive our butts around to these "wineries" when we were only saving about $50 in wine tasting fees. On the contrary, it seemed a bit risky to get looped while driving yourself to and from these tastings.Give these places a few years to refine their grapes and practices.Do yourself a favour and drive the extra 30 minutes into Canada and go to established, experienced wineries in Niagara On The Lake where you can find plentiful, affordable, transportation for your tour, and better yet, where you can taste real wine, not vinegar.

My fiancee and I visited this winery as part of a Living Social package that included a hotel stay and wine tasting at local wineries. Imagine walking into a warm and cozy old barn with the smell of a burning fire, only to find a selection of exquisite wines. Then you find that the folks behind the counter are wonderful individuals with knowledge of all of the wines- including the ingredients and great options to pair them with. Then you begin sampling and your senses are overwhelmed with the quality of the well crafted selections. You too can experience this- be sure to visit!! And, don't be scared by the chocolate wine, its absolutely delicious and can be a substitute for dessert!!

I have been to Victorianburg a few times once on a bus with about 40 people and in small groups of 2 to4 people. Every time we were treated great! Their wines are some of the best on the wine trail and I learn more about wine every time I visit this winery. The torreomore and potensus are my favorites here and cant leave without buying some to take home.
