Free, well maintained, year round, excellent exhibits, mostly focused on the US Army war participations, some of the exhibits are ultra rare, so get there and enjoy it.

Free. Galleries focus on West Point, the Army, small arms, large arms, history of warfare, and American wars. Display texts are dated in some places: the material on Indian enemies and the Indian wars, for example, needs some updating and even correction. But other parts are excellent, like the history of the Army's contributions to exploration, engineering, and expansion.

To begin to understand the incredible history of the United States Military Academy at West Point, one has to visit the West Point Museum for starters. This small but extremely comprehensive museum is free to visit, but donations are accepted and encouraged. All four levels of the museum are filled with fascinating artifacts, information, paintings, uniforms, and even weapons dating back several centuries to the present day. Plan to spend at least a couple of hours to really appreciate this museum, and even more time to read the exhibits. This museum is definitely worth the time to explore.

The West Point Museum has many galleries through which to stroll, from the progression of weaponry through the years, to history of the various wars, and of course the history of West Point and the Army, with interesting artifacts throughout the museum. One really interesting item was the diamond encrusted baton given by Hitler to Goering. There is also a beautiful wall inscription of the medal of honor recipients from West Point along with the gorgeous medal of honor encased. Lots to see, so allow at least of couple of hours.

The museum is great, however I HIGHLY recommend taking the two hour tour, it was definitely my favorite part of this trip. Our guide was informative, and interesting, I walked away feeling educated and inspired. . The Cemetery at West Point, NY is well worth the time and the emotions. There are so many hero's, so many stories, and if you walk away without feeling gratitude and inspiration....turn around and walk back thru.

The West Point Museum is a worthwhile investment of your time and intellect. Children love it, especially if you follow a visit to the museum at the Visitor's Center with a tour of the captured cannons on Trophy Point overlooking the West Point overlook of the majestic Hudson River (about 2 miles North of the Visitor's Center on the main Post of the military reservation). There are some truly unique treasures at this museum - framed by the tank at the entrance that was commanded by the best American armor battalion commander in WWII and later Commander of US Forces in Vietnam and Chief of Staff of the Army - Creighton Abrams - for whom our current main battle tank is named. The fascia baton of Herman Goering, the WWII Japanese surrender document signed by GEN McArthur, and many historic dioramas of ancient battles, to name a few. One of the things that sets this museum apart is the historic artifacts of men and women who have graduated from the US Military Academy and made history in Honorable Service to the United States and in many cases the world. So there is a definite personal connection of the exhibits that record the accomplishments of the men and women who have lived the motto "Duty Honor Country."

The museum at West Point is a must see for anyone interested in military history, weapons, or history in general. The museum is filled with various firearms, swords, polearms, knives, and various other weapons. Plus learn about America's famous and lesser-known heroes, from the generals whose names we all know to the first female West Point grad killed in action.Stop at the USMA Visitor Center for a quick run-through of life of the cadets.

If you like military history this is a place for you. This museum covers West Point and army uniforms, and all sorts of weapons, as you would expect. The museum is not too large so a walk through can be accomplished along with a tour in a day easily.

I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed showing my friends this wonderful, historical and educational facility at West Point. It renders a tour of the Point complete and should not be missed under any circumstances. I loved showing my grand children, as well as former military veteran and non-vet friends of mine this piece of Americana, that is seemingly overlooked nowadays for reasons unbeknownst to me. The displays are extremely well done and completely accurate and stirs your patriotic juices, which I found invigorating.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the museum as part of our overall visit to West Point. I'd have stayed longer if time had allowed and would make a return visit given the opportunity. It is good for solo's and families of all ages!
