The museum has a lot of interactive exhibits for children ages 2 through 6, maybe even older. the stairs are a little daunting fr little ones and it gets crowded, but other than that, it's a great way to spend a few hours.

Probably the best place to spend a few hours indoors, learning and playing with your kids in Staten Island. There are things to do for boys and girls, a big firetruck to drive (and a fireman costume to wear, too!), a big ship with a cozy little kitchen in its belly, a stage with sounds and lights that you get to control, more costumes to wear and play dress up with, a house that needs construction work, and a veterinarian's office where to cure some stuffed animals suffering from stuffed sinuses. So many different rooms and so many different things to learn. You can even host a Birthday Party (which I prefer it to the usual bouncy rides places). Definitely a great place for kids.

Was visiting friends with kids. The museum was fun and educational for the kids. I enjoyed seeing their faces filled with joy.

We went the Staten Island Children’s Museum on Satursday, December 6. It was a rainy day and the commute from New Jersey took us two hours. Next time, I would drive and pay the tolls. We took our two kids, age 6 and 4. We have a Gold membership with the Ontario Science Centre, which gave us access to the Children’s Museum for free. I would recommend this but only if you have young kids. My son was almost 7 and he enjoyed it. However, I think anyone over 8 or 9 may not. When we arrived in the rain, we were confused as to where the entrance was. There are a number of buildings on the property and, of course, it had to be the one around the back. From where the bus dropped us off, the building wasn’t visible. There are some fun and hands-on activities for the kids. There is a fire station with a fire truck to play on a pole to slide down (not high up and there is padding). There are a number of other activities including a discovery area that included this forest play area, arctic play area, and underwater play area. Each area is designed to test young children about exploration is those different environments. My son’s favourite was the house, which you can put on hard hats and play construction worker. There were foam sidings for the walls and a pulley to raise the foam pieces to the second floor. Overall, it was a good hands on place for the kids to play on a cold rainy day. I think this place would be better if they kept some of the toys newer. Nevertheless, it can keep the young kids busy but older ones will likely be bored.

Took my 3 boys, my nephew and Inlaws they had a blast. The place was not crowded. Staff and customers were friendly. We went for 3 hours and ended up staying 6 hours.

We picked this museum as a break from our trip from ny to pa. It could be that my kids are just too old..but they were very bored. Not much to do and the stuff seemed outdated. I guess for the price it was worth it or if you have younger kids

This is a nice small gem in New York, reccomend to take the free Staten Island ferry across (get to see great views of the Statue of Liberty and of Manhattan) short bus ride or taxi ride to the museum that is situated in a garden complex with botanical gardens next to it, great place lots of things for kids to do and run and play and my daughters (7&9) really needed such a break after walking the city streets. They have lots of activities, fire truck, giant games, exploring and much more...Bring food with you, the local food available to buy is a joke!Worth half a day break from the city and very cheap.

It used to be betterNow they have many stifling rules and regulationsThe Museum closes early and on most holidays. Although we have an annual membership - it's not of much use.

This attraction wasn't even on our NYC shortlist but after a tiring morning we noticed an advert for a future event just as we were boarding the Staten Island ferry. A quick bit of internet research and a return ferry for lunch at Brooklyn Bridge turned in to a snack in the ferry terminal and a short bus ride to the beautiful Snug Harbor area (bus S40 included in a Metro Pass). Before heading in to the main Cultural Center area we stopped to watch some little league baseball - not the Mets/Yankees but just as memorable given that we'd just arrived in New York for the first time. The museum itself had some nice outdoor green space and four floors of activities. Our son is 6 and I'd say that it would entertain kids up to around 7 or 8. There were some distinct areas which focussed on wildlife (mainly bugs); how buildings are constructed; games e.g. giant versions of chess, dominoes, connect 4; exploration - jungles and ice; the Fire Department including dressing up; an outdoor play area. There were regular workshops including make and decorate your game (which you got to keep) and a guide to the animals (including a close up look at a tarantula). This was a well spent couple of hours away from the crowds and the cost was relatively low - $6 each. The surrounding grounds were beautiful with a small botanical garden and various buildings. We saw signs of at least one wedding party so it seems like a popular venue.

Excellent day trip out of Manhattan for families travelling with children. Snug Harbour is a woooonderful place, so much culture, beautiful gardens, green house, chineese gardens, concert hall, arts center and of course the childrens museum.A free ferry ride from Manhattan at South Ferry and a very short bus ride to Snug Harbour.DEFINITELY worth a visit.

We enjoyed this interactive hands on museum. The Staten Island Ferry is free & the price of entry is good. Lots of fun to be had by all for all ages.
