This park is a hidden gem of Queens. Acres of forest with trails for walking and horse back riding as well as a road open only to people on the weekends. We start walking from the Kew Gardens Overlook, cross over Metropolitan Avenue and then walk through the park to Woodhaven Blvd. Weekend bikers, roller bladers, and walkers use the open road - far less crowded than Central Park. Stick to the trails or the road if you want to enjoy the trees, fresh air and birds. The ends of the park are the busiest. Kew Gardens has a baseball field and playground. Metropolitan Avenue has the carousel on one side and racquet ball courts and a track. The asphalt "field" often is host to summer carnivals and puppet shows.

I stumbled on to this nearby park quite by accident. Since then I visit the Park three to four times a week no matter the weather.

This park is huge! It is also heavily wooded and fairly undeveloped, other than the playing fields, the golf course and the band shell. It's a great place to walk, run, ride a bike or have a picnic and is usually fairly quiet. It's beautiful in all seasons. The only thing lacking are restrooms.

This is one of those places you hate to review because you don't want it to get too crowded. Our favorite use of the J train, this park is a wonderful forest oasis in the middle of the city. We like to go early and hike around the pond, then visit the recently landmarked carousel with our kids (grown-ups: hold on! you'll be surprised how fast it goes). Then we like to hike around the bridle trails and hiking trails. A great way to get you and your kids into nature without having to rent a car or spend a weekend outside the city. One tip: spend as little time as possible in the area around the large parking lot; you may find thousands of people there grilling, but you'll quickly be transported to a forest oasis by hitting the bridle trails and hiking trails.

I just found this amazing park in queens with bike trails. They go from regular bike baths with nice greener and you go go off the path into a crazy, scary and fun mountainous bike trails. They have trails marked on the trees yellow, Blue, Red but I just went for it and end up finding the old train tracks. It was a nice adventurous bike ride. Make sure you have some pants and long sleeves because the paths are wild. Be prepared to get off your bike and carry it over some loges, down steep rocky hills and around winding roads. If you like a Mountain Biking try this park.. and Bring some H2O.

If you have the chance to visit Queens, please visit the Forest Park at Metropolitan avenue, It is a huge park with different trails for Hiking. Yellow , Blue and Orange trails. There is a map and from time to time the Park offers guided tours into the woods. Even on Saturday morning there is hiking groups that goes into the woods for couple of hours. It is beautiful all year round.

park is so large that i have yet to see it all. I spent time there recently and in the summer with my dog at the dog run. The run is a little run down but spacious with seating and shade for parents and pets. Looking forward to this spring and summer for a few of the events

I live about 20 minutes away. When my children were young we would go to this park all the time. They use to have one of the oldest carousel (it closed several years ago) they also had pony rides for the kids (but also no longer there). The thing we did enjoy and they still have is free concerts in the park. In the summer they have free shows each week. This park still has a lot to offer such as golf, tennis, horseback riding and other things.

This park is so vast you literally can get lost if you arent careful. Lots of hiking trails good for bird watching. An amazing escape into a world of greenery. This park also has a carousel, picnic area and bandstand. Concerts are offered during the summer. The only downside is...not enough convenient restrooms especially near the Metropolitan Ave. gate.

The park on the Myrtle avenue side has a sprinkler section and a playground. If you go pass the highway entrance make a left at the house there is a Merry go round and on Saturdays there is a magic show. 2 pm and 4 pm. Fun for the kids.
