scaroon manor state park

Scaroon Manor is a New York State campground,officially. But what Scaroon Manor really is hiking trails, water views, swimming, majestic views, and one of the finest locations on Schroon Lake. We are not campers any more, but by the care given to the buildings and grounds, this has to be one of the State's best.If you are a camper, camp; a swimmer, swim; or if you love nature just take long walk. Don't miss the historic markers and pictures of the good old days of Scaroon Manor. Has anyone mentioned that the movie Marjorie Morningstar, starring Natalie Wood and Gene Kelly, to name a few, was filmed at the original hotel and grounds in the late 1950's.

This camp ground was the cleanest and best kept bathroom facilities. People are friendly and it's not over crowded. A Crystal clear lake is a perfect backdrop any time of the day. Pretty wide open spaces, lacking a woodsy feel. I recommend this camp ground for all size families. Be sure to check out the very cool old amphitheater. It has a very interesting history. It's a perfect RV or pop up camper type of place. No pool or rec. center, but we go camping to create our own fun! It rained for two days prior to our visit and we didn't experience a bug problem at all.

This place is built on the grounds of a former landmark resort, and still has the archeological ruins remaining from a by-gone era. Very interesting to research and scout around the park for signs of the old, mixed in with some upscale new amenities. Nice shower and bathroom facilities, and an apparently quiet beach. The park specializes in parking spaces for land yachts and lacks an overall campground feel due to the wide open sites without tree cover. The bugs were evident the time we were there, and other campers confirmed that you had to fend off the biters. I would stay here with a self-contained rig and maybe a tent if I couldn't get into Eagle Point down the road.
