It was the first time my husband and I and our friends had been white water rafting, we had the best time! We are so glad we had Alex, he is a wonderful guide. We will definitely do it again.

I was a little nervous going into this having never rafted before but these people were fantastic, incredibly knowledgeable, showed us exactly what we need to do and showed us some incredible sites along the way. I would absolutely do it again

From the reservation process, to the pre rafting info session to the rafting itself..not to mention the awesome bbq afterwards the whole experience was awesome. Strongly recommend Brandon as a laid back, fun and more than able guide.

very highly recommend Adirondack River Outfitters. Our guide, "critter" made our first experience white water rafting an adventure to remember! While putting our safety first and foremost he also made the 17 mile trip lots of fun and interesting! We learned to NEVER STAND UP IN THE RIVER AND NEVER TAKE YOUR HAND OFF THE TOP OF YOUR PADDLE...he did an amazing job with our team! The views were breathtaking and the ride was fantastic! Book a trip with this company and request CRITTER, you wont be disappointed!

Highly recommend! We went with a group of 9 on 8/23/14 on the Hudson River and it was awesome. The boats have 8 spots for rowing, and one person sat in the middle catching all the waves. Our group consisted of 20 somethings to 50 and everyone had a great time. Only one person fell overboard during the trip, but the guides do a great job of preparing you for what to do if this happens. We all had a good laugh and everyone felt safe throughout the entire day considering we were all first-time rafters. It was a chilly/rainy day for August, but the staff kindly provided everyone with wet-suit jackets and that was perfect to keep you comfortable throughout the trip. We can't wait to book next years trip! Thank you!!

Our rafting trip on the Hudson River with Adirondack River Outfitters was awesome! The staff did a great job letting us know what to expect and how to safely handle any situation that might arise------DON'T STAND UP IN THE RIVER. Our guide Kevin was fantastic. He had a great personality and really seemed to know what he was doing. The rapids were fun and not overwhelming with plenty of time between to relax and swim. You might as well get out of the boat and swim at the first stop because you are going to get soaked a few minutes later anyway! The snack was great but the chicken was a little disappointing. We weren't there for the food though! We will be back!

I highly recommend Adirondack River Outfitters for white water rafting! I have rafted with them twice now, both times on the Black River. All of the guides/employees are extremely energetic and they really seem to truly love their jobs! Our guide was Erica and she was incredible. She had a great personality and made us feel comfortable right from the start. It was very clear that she knew every twist and turn of the river, and I felt completely safe throughout the entire trip. The Black River in August/early September is the perfect time for beginners and those who are looking for an adventurous and exhilirating ride! I loved the mid-trip snack and lemonade, as well as the barbeque at the end of the trip. I love this company, and will most definitely be back again next year! So much fun!

I took a group of 12 friends on the Black River trip on a Sunday. Several were first timers. Everyone had a great time and can't wait to go again. This was my first time using ARO. The word that kept jumping to mind for me was "professional" from start to finish. I'd estimate the total size of the group at around 60 people that day and sometimes things can drag when you're processing that many people, but ARO really kept things moving. We didn't have to wait in long lines to sign the waiver and get our paddles / vests / helmets. The safety talk started on time, was informative, and not dragged out unnecessarily like I've seen at other places. They assigned groups to rafts / guides which I thought was great as it avoided a free for all of 60+ people trying to find a raft all at once. Our guide quickly organized us and we did about 5 minutes of practice prior to setting off. We found out at the end of the trip that it was our guide's first solo trip with a raft group. I would have thought he had been doing it ten years. He prepped us for each rapid with a plan ahead of time which was very helpful. No one got bounced out of the boat the entire trip. Other things of note: - About half way through there's a carry out where they provide a snack (some kind of peanut butter and honey burrito thing and a drink).- There are two spots where you can swim if you choose to. - Beer / water is provided at the end of the trip. At the end all rafts are lashed together and towed out by a power boat. The tow out took around 20 minutes followed by a 20 minute or so bus ride back to the start point. - Once back at the start point they provide a small buffet (bread, salads, chicken breast). You can buy a photo DVD of the trip for $40. They have a laptop you can preview the pictures on. My only suggestion for improvement would be a bigger changing area for after the trip. It was pretty small for a group that large, but many changed in their cars. Also maybe add some curtains as the men's changing room door opens directly onto the main lobby and the lobby gets a pretty good look whenever someone goes in or out :) Overall, ARO provided exactly what my friends and and I were looking to get out of this trip and I won't hesitate to use them again in the future.

Last year my group and I were lucky enough to get "Dingo" as our guide. This year we requested him! All around, the guides are very knowledgeable of the river and surrounding areas. Safety and fun are their top priorities and they exceed in both. We will definitely be returning next year.

I am glad you thought our staff was great and am sorry about the excessive safety related waiting above and below some of the rapids that you experienced, as that amount of wait time is NOT our normal procedure. The day you went was unusual in two regards, as you noted the water level was extremely high for that time of year, but in addition a hydroelectric plant on the river had a turbine that was shut down creating the highest water level that our guides had seen in the gorge in 25 years. Because of this unique situation we imposed much more stringent guidelines on our guides to insure that all boats were available to provide support in the event of a mishap. The next week the hydroelectric facility was repaired and our trips resumed their normal protocol which would involve mush less lime waiting above and below rapids. While weekends normally are busier we limit the size of any one trip to insure a quality of experience for our guests. Sorry again for any compromise in our normal quality you may have experienced on this unique day.

We went after a lot of rain so there was a LOT of water! The rapids were amazing! Our boat was the lead boat and 5 out of 7 of us went flying over another person and into the water. There were some injuries but they were professionally addressed. I would not recommend this trip for children. The food was amazing and the staff was great.

Couldn't have been better. River was running high. Class 4 all the way. Went with my 3 sons.2 were 20 plus and my young son being 11. Dylan our guide was very experienced and knowledgeable. Could not take the smiles off of all our faces as the trill of the river set the pace. This was the best Father's Day ever!Rick in Vermont.

Four of us did the Black River Run with ARO in Watertown. Our guide, Chris, was excellent. He was extremely personable, humourous and very knowledgeable. All staff members were friendly which made the whole excursion very enjoyable. The all you could eat chicken and beer barbecue at the end was very tasty and was a perfect way to end the day.
