Even if its cold it's nice to take a walk. Wanted to see the frozen bay. Noticed lots of garbage on sand and throught swing area.

Nestled on Jamaica Bay, surrounded by water, is Charles Park. Memorializing a local soldier lost in battle during WWI, this park has it all. Tennis, ball fields, handball, children's playground, fishing, jogging, walking and more. Beautiful vistas of Jamaica Bay, follow the air traffic at JFK. Recently became the home of several colonies of Monk Parrots - those colorful and boisterous birds that have "come home" after their ancestors reportedly escaped from a JFK shipment 50 years ago.Great local eateries on Cross Bay Blvd. A little tough to get to - only four access points to the area - Cohancy St off No Conduit, the Nassau Expwy entrance ramp, and 156 / 157 th Sts off Cross Bay. A 15 minute walk from the Howard Beach train station.
