st elmo general store

We decided at the last minute to rent ATVs at the general store. Lee was great. He walked us through the safety talk and was very helpful. We road up Road 267 to Mirror Lake. This trail is extremely rocky but well worth the trip. You will end up at Tin Cup Pass which is part of the continental divide. It's beautiful. On our return, we picked through their yard to see if there were any antiques we wanted and watched the people feeding the chipmunks. You can buy food at the store and the chipmunks will eat right out of your hand. Great fun for the kids. This spot is very popular with the ATV crowd. It's a drive to get there.

Antiques and curiosities, a tiny general store tucked away in the little mining town of St. Elmo --- keep looking, you will find something you can't live without!

As the now tourist stop and gift shop, the old St. Elmo General Store offers tee shirts and snacks, while being a virtual museum of artifacts for sale. Included in inventory, inside and outside are everything from dutch ovens and frying pans to wash boards, dinner china, old sewing machines, mining pans and every manner of rusting iron hardware and gear. Like walking a museum and being able to purchase (at pretty much rock bottom pricing) something from another era. Historical preservation groups are broadly advertised with donations gratefully accepted to continue to maintain and preserve the old town.
