I'm not sure I would do this hike unless taking the Boat Tour. I recommend the boat tour. The ranger does a nice job sharing history of the area and it is a very nice cruise along the reservoir. The stairs are not so bad going down. It is not 200 consecutive steps - some flat sections break them up. It is more work coming up the stairs.

This is the hike you will take if you plan on taking the Morrow Point Boat Ride. You will have to deal with 200+ steps but it's a wonderful view of the river and the mountains as you walk down, just take your time. Not sure how long the trail is but it doesn't go on for too long once you get to the docking area.

This hike is great if you want a short hike with great views! It has someting like 206 steps down to the river (whcih may seem daunting on the way back up, but there are benches to sit and rest), and then you can walk along the trail by the river. There are also boat tours down the river from this location. The water is usually super clear and the black canyon walls are almost breath-taking. Could be a fun picnic area. There are a few large boulders along the edge that are great to sit on and enjoy the scenery. This is definitely one of my favorites in the area :) good for families (with or without young kids) and couples.
