If you want to experience some of Golden's History, this is the place to visit along with the Astor House & Clear Creek History Park. Basically you tour the places on your own. The Astor House would be better if they had a tour to explain their displays. The History Park needs more signage about the buildings.

Enjoyed my visit although it's not big. Particularly liked the Coors advertisement signs and all the Coors memorabilia. The old pianos were interesting too. Gift shop could be better, not terribly inspiring.

This is a small but nice history center. Well worth the $3 admission charge. There are several video documentarys airing the center - including one of the the development of the alumimun beer can by Coors.Allow 30-60 minutes to see the exhibits.

A 30 minute drive from Downtown Denver - the historic capital of Colorado & has to be on everyone's bucket list. It may be small but it is beautiful - calm & relaxing. Visit on the day of the farmers market which just adds to the outdoor experience.

Good introduction to life in Golden before and now. Nice staff and interesting artifacts related to innovation in the Golden area

Just $3 to go in, it was a bargain. Very carefully thought out museum with some lovely exhibits. Very friendly lady at reception who explained everything and kept the gift shop open a little longer for me in case I wanted to buy anything. Will take about an hour to go round, very well maintained and a delight to pop in and see.

It doesn't take much time or money to see this at your own pace and you get a souvenir included in the price that you get to watch be made. It was interesting to learn all the things that were invented in Golden. Good spot to stop by if you are new to Golden or thinking of moving there – you get a sense of the people through the bios of the real people in the community. If you get the combo ticket it's a total of $5 to also see the Astor House, which is also well worth visiting. It'll take to total of ~2.5-3 hours if you also take a stroll through the Clear Creek History Park which is located between the two. I wish I had known about it being free during special events and about the other TA posting saying you don't have to visit the Astor House + the History Center on the same day. However, they take such a short amount of time I wouldn't want to drive all the way back either, but for those that live closer to the area it's good to know.

We made a point of coming here to see an orange velvet piano (really!) and were pleasantly surprised by the rest of the place. It is a well thought out small museum with excellent displays. Highly recommend.

My kids and I just visited the newly opened exhibits at the golden history center and had a ball!  The kids each got to engrave their own medallion for free using "made in golden" technology.  The exhibits are diverse and richly rooted in real stories about real people from right here in golden.  From famous pioneers of Colorado innovation to bluegrass musicians you can see playing in town today, the museum offers a great big "Howdy folks" style welcome to visitors.  All locals must come as well as tourists from out of town.  (Only one suggestion/question - what is the history of the howdy folks sign?)

If you visit the Golden History Center on 10th Street in the next few months, you will be delighted to see the Made in Golden exhibit. Coors pioneered the tin can and the story behind its development is fun even if you're not an engineer. The Pierce family has donated a steam powered press machine and you can imprint your own keepsake. But all of Golden's innovation are not in the past as Sypderco Knives prove. Boppy Baby pillows and even Jolly Rancher candy started life in Golden. There's just not enough space for all the creative and interesting things that either are or were made in Golden.

We’re sorry that you did not enjoy your visit to the Golden History Center, and we’d like to use your review to help improve our services to other visitors. It’s true that a segment of the museum is currently closed to accommodate the installation of a brand-new exhibit called Made in Golden. It will open on Oct. 12, 2013, and will tell the story of historic innovations from Golden using such diverse examples as a needle-free injection system and a virtually indestructible dog toy, using state-of-the-art technology and hands-on activity areas.Such closures happen as often as once per year, and while we regret that visitors cannot see part of the museum at those times, we feel that the trade-off of new exhibits is always beneficial in the long run. Many visitors also find that seeing a new exhibit during installation gives a valuable behind-the-scenes look at museum operations, and that it actually enhances a visit. If you find yourself in Golden again and would like to see Made in Golden, just let us know and we’ll be happy to provide complimentary admission for you and your party to compensate for your inconvenience. Thank you for your review, and please call us directly at 303.278.3557 if you have any questions or concerns about your recent visit. We would love to hear from you.

The Golden History Center is so worth while. We had a great time looking at all the musical instruments and reading about them. We especially enjoyed the movie about what the people went through in the wars and during the depression. What a resilient community! Best of all, was sitting in the comfy chairs and listening to the music of Golden. Very interesting and entertaining. The museum is now working on a new exhibit about innovation in Golden. For example, the first aluminum beverage cans were used at the local Coors factory. We took two days to see the museum, as the ticket is good for a week. We looked at the faces of history exhibit one day and came back for the music exhibit a few days later. It was great to be able to take our time like that. Be sure to get the combo ticket which includes the Astor House.

Going down town to see what the old city was about was very fact finding and a pleasure.

It's a museum. Don't let the name fool you (as it did us). There are some permanent exhibits and some rotating. All worthwhile. We spent an hour, but you can see it in less time (we listened to lots of historic music of the town while seated in comfortable chairs). Inexpensive and worth a stop if you are in Golden for a couple of days.
