The Winstead Hill Park is a very neat place. They have many confederate state graves there to look at and it is very interesting. I would recommend you go.

I was unable to locate this site. Additional signage may be needed. We drove over one mile from Carter House, but we're disappointed that we couldn't find it.

A wonderful short stop to learn about the Battle of Franklin. It takes you up to the top of the hill where the generals could see out to Franklin and plan their attack.Unfortunately it didn't work out the way they planned and it was a sad massacre for the South.Also go see the Carter House, the Lotz House, and the Carnton Plantation for guided tours that really give you the whole story of the Battle of Franklin.

This is a very interesting place because it was where the commander of the Army of Tennessee, Lt. General John Bell Hood, oversaw the Battle of Franklin. His command center is just about a half mile south; an old plantation not open to visitors. There is an excellent terrain map at the top of the hill that shows all the relevant features of the open land for 2 miles to the town of Franklin in 1864. You can stand where Hood stood and survey the battlefield before you (although vegetation has grown up in the ensuing years). There are also monuments commemorating the lives and careers for 5 of the 7 generals who were killed in the battle. Recommend going here first before you begin any of the other Civil War sites. It is south of Franklin about 2 miles on the Columbia Pike, which is the main North-South road coming out of downtown.

Winstead Hill Park was the promontory which Gen. Bell used as a vantage point during the Civil War Battle of Franklin. Steps take you up to this site and along the way there are various informational plaques to read. Once down from this walk, you can enjoy a picnic, fly a kite, toss a frisbee, football, or baseball in a large grassy open area. There is a peaceful walking, jogging trail through the woods and fields.

it was ok but it is not a walk trail you see a lot trees and people runs not walk it a good place get out rest and walk around little bit I would be back at this park

So much history evolves around this beautiful place. Having lived in Tennessee for most of my life, I was not aware of this park. It is a wonderful way to spend the afternoon with family. It is not only educational and historic, the lookout from the top of the hill is so beautiful. Trees, hills, nature interspersed with modern town sites in the distance abound. Very peaceful!

Urban sprawl makes it almost impossible to visualize the Battle of Franklin. Go up Winstead Hill before you do anything else--the markers and information, along with the view, help you understand the troop movements and see very easily how the battle started. A great reference point and the markers there are both poignant and informative.

Was here a couple of years ago to see places associated with the Battle of Franklin. Found this stop on my self guided auto tour to be very nice. The monuments, maps, and just over all view was interesting. It would have been much better if the trees shutting off the view of "The Carter House" had been removed but such is progress. Many areas need to be cleared out and fences put up so you can better understand the battle but with modern times and properties owned by certain people make it difficult to do the battle up properly. As a member of save the battlefield I hope in some small way things continue to be bought up and re-preserved for future visitors.

After touring Carnton plantation and the Carter and Lotz home, I liked going up there to firm up their locations to each other for myself. It was a nice warm day and a very pleasant historical park

We visited this site in order to see the battlefield from the vantage point of General Hood. However, the trees in the direction of the Carter home have been allowed to grow to block the view in that direction. The stone sidewalk up the hill has also become very rough. But the worst part was the stench coming from the restrooms. We were unable to escape it until we were half way up to the observation area.

a very simple memorial to the Battle of Franklin. Sat at picnic tables for lunch and just enjoyed the company and the view. Learned lots just reading the plaques.

I love this park. There is an area dedicated to history with monuments and plaques, as well as a nice, quiet area for walking or exercising. It is small enough that you can do it in 20 minutes or you can make it last as long as you like. It is peaceful and well-maintained. My only complaint is the bugs, especially the ticks, in summertime. But it is a great place to go for a morning stroll.

I live close to this park but only recently discovered it on accident. My fiance love getting some lunch to go and sitting in this park for a picnic. It's very small with just a mile loop for a walking path with no playground or any other recreational options. It's a good secluded place for a date or for dog-walking.
