This museum has great exhibits and fun activities even for kids. It is a great way to learn about the mormons and the church past. However do not expect it to be all accurate the mormon church alters a lot of its history to be more "friendly" to the current beliefs and appearance of the church. and that is what they show you in the museum. Either way though it gives you a good inside view of what the mormons believe and what they believe happened in its past, so it is worth visiting.

This place understands that bringing young children can be tough. There's loads of things to do and it is pretty fun. The video presentations they show of pioneers from England feature actors whose attempts at an English accent re cringing but that aside its great. A must see for any Mormon really. Great access for strollers and really close to everything else in temple square. If you're in town, pop by and give it a go.

Next to Temple Square, dedicated to Mormon deeds and culture that dominate Utah history. Informative exhibits.

It isn't off the beaten path, but it is sometimes overlooked with the attractions of Temple Square. For Mormon or non-Mormon, this museum gives you a great look into the history and culture of Satl Lake City. Very family friendly and welcoming. Easy for children to see.

I'm not an LDS member. But I am a history lover. I felt like I learned so much about those who helped settle the west. Great time, free, and well put together. Way to go!

A very interesting collection of period pieces and one walks around unmolested by LDS eager recruiters - which makes this #1 place !

Beware that the museum will be closing next week for a one-year renovation. It should be even better than before; lots of hands-on activities are planned for kids.

I am a local and found a connection with my ancestors in this Museum, a journal of my Great Great grandfather Levi Hancock. Loved the displays of early Salt Lake City and the migration information of the Pioneers!!

For this museum you don't pay, go on your own pace , no English they might just have a self guide tour with headphones for you in your language. Interesting also for the children, 3 floors, on the second floor an play area for children, main floor pioneer days, statues and many paintings, changing themes. Outside between the museum and the Family History Library, stands an old pioneer cottage, you can peek in, Museum has a small gift shop, with puzzles books postcards jewelry etc.

My favorite part of this visit to the museum was a great art lecture by a costumed docent, discussing the Paris Art Mission, and what makes a painting Impressionist. Informative, just long enough, and very engaging presentation, with great visuals right there in the museum. My little girls spent quite a long time in the children's gallery. We'll miss the museum while its closed for renovations, but we'll be back in October 2015 to see all the new things!

The museum was so nice. We spent the entire day there and loved it very much. So much to see and do there. Amazing how these people loaded up their belongings and treked across the country blazing a trail until they found a place to rest.

Of course the history is from Mormon perspective, but accept that as a given and what is presented is interesting and informative.

As a Mormon, I appreciated all the original artifacts in the museum. I appreciated learning more about the history of early Salt Lake City and the surrounding area. As a person who just likes history and immigration stories, I appreciated learning about the pioneer experience. As a Mom, I loved the kid room upstairs, like a mini children's museum where kids can make pretend meals to feed the missionaries, sail a ship or dance with fancy clothes on. The current art exhibit focused on women is fantastic, in my opinion. We also liked to see the small original cabin outside. My kids liked it!

This a an excellent museum yo learn about the migrations and settlement of the west. The trials of the immigrants were well documented with mock ship bunks set up where kids can experience how it felt to sleep on a little bunk with your entire family. The museum is closing in October for a year long renovation.

I went here for the second time. The first time I was alone. This time I went with six other people and everyone loved the experience. The staff are well educated and more than helpful. The museum is better than Temple Square.
