While Hansell might not have been in your radar before, it should be now with the TownsEnd Winery in mind. We visited for the their annual Labor Day festivities and found it to be quite entertaining. They had free wine samples, bands, as well as Iowa vendors, and if you were super adventurous, you could take a mule-drawn ride throughout the town of Hansell (about 9 roads in total). Our favorite wine was the Gooseberry, but they're all quite tasty honestly. At around $16/bottle, they certainly fit into the mode of the typical costs of Iowa wines. Would love to see their wines available at local locations as well. Owners were very passionate in describing the wine and how they're created! We're glad we made the trip there!

Townsend Winery is located in the tiny town of Hansell, Iowa, but it's big on friendliness, personality and fun! Vern and Judy (the owners) go out of their way to create a happy and relaxed environment for their customers; you'll leave as friends from spending time there. Their wines are superb (try the cranberry...it's the best I've ever had), the tastings are generous, and the Labor Day festivities with live music, food and craft vendors is an event that's highly anticipated by the locals. This is my favorite spot in Iowa!
