Domeier's is like stepping back in time to Dusseldorf. They have a huge assortment of various German food, candy, toys and trinkets. It is small and crowded and kitschy but that is part of the experience.

It is amazing the things we found! The store is small but full of all things German. I loved the Christmas items and grocery. Hours vary due to the owners going on trips to Germany. Everyone friendly. Not pressure sales. It is out of the way but well worth the time to stop if you enjoy unique shopping.

I grew up across the street from Domeier's and watched it evolve from a small neighborhood food store to the magical German gift shop that it is today.Marlene and her mother owned and operated this little store, where you could buy milk, eggs, bread and oh yes, five cent candy. But Marlene loved the old country and took a yearly trip back to Germany. She had an eye for the fun German gifts, candy and music that one could only find on the otherside of the Atlantic.Slowly one side of the store started carrying German gift items. Slowly that aisle got bigger and bigger and more and more German items took over the cans of SPAM and paper towels. German music played and little German trinkets were everywhere. It seemed everyday was a Christmas market.Suddenly tour buses started to show up and people came from all over the world to see this magical little gift shop. Marlene welcomed each and every visitor with a smile and a story. This is a magical place that you should not miss on your trip to New Ulm.

I have ADORED this magical, little German store since I was a kid. You are greeted by a member of the Domeier family who started the store in 1934 and you hear yodeling, see the steins, pins, cards, books, music, photos of the Alps and the toys. Then there's the chocolate bars, gummy bears, other candies, Cuckoo clocks and Christmas items. Stocked with the same merchandise found in the shops of Germany.
