...is finding a hidden treasure in the course of everyday life. The Plaza is a little two-screen neighborhood theater tucked away behind a strip mall...neat enough, but not particularly impressive. We went there only because they were playing a movie that my granddaughter wanted to see. The first surprise was the ticket price...$2 for a Saturday showing of a movie that just left the first run theaters the week before. The second surprise was the concession stand. You don't need a second mortgage to treat yourself to good popcorn, a variety of beverages and an ample selection of candy...with refills on t he popcorn. The staff was truly friendly and helpful, pointing out a way to get what we wanted and save a bit more. The third surprise was the viewing area. The seating was comfortable, and had several pullout areas for wheelchairs and some wide seats perfect for a grandpa and his granddaughter to cuddly (okay, or for two lanky teenagers). After resigning myself to yet another encounter with sticky floors and congealing piles of stale popcorn like many other theaters, I was pleased to see clean floors and seats. Then the feature began. The screen is smallish (the only reason this review gave 4 stars), but the picture quality was excellent: bright, crisp and vivid. The sound was very good, without the bass booming and multilspeaker interference of big theaters. They show a wide variety of good movies virtually every day, which is nice. It does require you to pay close attention to the schedule, which changes daily.Even though there are a half-dozen theater complexes closer, the Plaza is now definitely on the top of our list because of its quality, value and family-friendly atmosphere.

This is the place to go for $2 movies ($1 Tuesdays) and reasonable concessions. The staff is very friendly and they keep the theater clean. My only complaint is the movie scheduling. The movie selection and the times vary quite a bit. Often times there is no 9:00 movie.

I love the Plaza! They always play great movies and it is dirt cheap! They usually play the movies from the theater right before they come out on dvd.

WOW WOW and WOW those are the only wods that can be used when you walk into the "new" Plaza movie theatre in Maplewood MN. They have totally redid the place and it looks great, if you buy a medium or large pop you get one free refill and if you buy a medium or large popcorn one free refill and the prices for a med pop is around 2.75 and large popcorn is around 4.75 and candy is around 3.OO. 8t is very affordable and you can watch it is a new freshly painted room with new screen and new plush seats. Plaza can't be beat for the price if you want nice instead of totaly luxury totally luxury will cost Plaza does me just fine. Great job Plaza a diamond no longer in the rough it sparkles.

The two dollar movies and inexpensive popcorn make the trip to this newly refreshed theater an inexpensive evening out.

This is a great two dollar movie theater. Not much more that I can say. It beats paying 10 bucks to see a movie

your old neighborhood type theater---two screens, go on a Tuesday and you pay $1 to get in to the show and I think my popcorn and pop together was $3. I spent less than $5 for a movie! No plus seating or fancy digital. Just a good old movie on the big screen. Love this place! Oh, and any other day costs a whopping $2 for the show. Go see the same show at Rosedale or Carmike and you spend $22 for the same except the popcorn is even better at the Plaza! Much better parking also! Currently the owner and the community are doing a fundraiser as the movie makers in Hollywood are all going digital and unless he does some major upgrades, he won't be able to stay open. This place reminds me a little bit of the old Highland theatre where I started my working career at the ripe age of 14.
